Hi! I completely understand your dilemma! When faced with so many choices, I sometimes get overwhelmed (-: And we have so many choices these days: texture, color, pattern, size- it all can get very confusing. Pillow costs can add up as well- I don't know if you sew, but you can take the old pillows that you have and make new covers quite easily if you sew. If not, then etsy would always be my first choice! I love the light tans, whites and pale blues that others have suggested. Also, there is a free mag/online site called Coastal Living that you should sign up for- lots of ideas and great photos of other spaces that you can get ideas from. In regard to a new couch- I think that the one you have has good bones, cushion foam still looks firm and seems to fit nicely in your space. Good couches are $2,000 or more these days; and sectionals are crazy pricey! I have an almost 30-year old sectional inherited from my in-laws, but the off-white chenille fabric was worn out. The hardwood frame was so well made and the simple design so suited to us that I decided to keep it. I had a local upholsterer make patterns for the cushions, and for a fitted cover for both pieces of the sectional. I had him then sew up all the covers in a creamy flax/tan linen-cotton fabric and had him add cushion piping and box pleats at the bottoms, so it looks luxe. It was expensive, but cost me much less than a new couch, and I have the patterns to keep. What I like is that with the kids, I can take off 1 cushion cover or every cover and have them dry cleaned. When this cover is toast, I will take the patterns and have new covers made, to keep changing it up! Because it is tailored to my couch, it looks great. And keeping it in a soft neutral color lets me also change the look with pillows and throw blankets for the seasons. I also learned that if your couch has feet, you can select new ones to change the look- they just screw in or out usually (easy!) Our couch was too low before as the feet were very small, so I chose some large dark square wooden ones that lifted it 2" off the ground. This also helped update the look and was not super pricey.
