Hi all, I am in Zone 9A (SF EAST BAY) and reliably in 80's and 90's in summer, and hotter. I have a small bed beside my front steps that is mostly in full sun 8 mos of the year but in the summer (of course hottest temps) more than half of the bed is in strong full sun for the first half of the day, if not longer. I have tried a number of plants but can't seem to find plants that work well given the conditions. Surprisingly, I have foxglove that reseeded in the hot part of the bed and are living but don't look great. Wish I could send pic but my iphone setting won't allow. I have Japanese maple (very small) in shade part, plus an asparagus fern in sun part which are doing well, but what would work and look good all year? The bed is about 6' x 4' with a tall stone wall behind it as part of the front stairs.
