I would consider doing away with the dark piece behind the cooktop as well as the 4" backsplash and look at some nice tile to draw your eyes away from the busy floor. If budget allows then I would look at changing the countertop color to something with more contrast - possibly a black to blend with the appliance color and make a bold statement. I also am not too crazy with the yellow paint with the cabinet and floor color. I would consider something warmer.

I agree just can't find the right color. I think taking the 4" backsplash out and doing tile is a tile a good idea also. We are closing on this house soon and my husband wants me to have my mind made up. Thank you sooo much for your help.

Do you have any plans to change your cabinet color? They are beautiful cabinets but the washed oak color makes them appear a bit outdated...cream would be ideal...the flooring preferably should go as well.

I don't believe those are washed oak cabinets. I think they are glazed birch that is sold at HD. Having them painted and redoing the floor would help the room. You don't make a decision about a floor without considering the rest of the home flooring finishes.

I actually don't mind the cabinets. I really don't like the floor, though. I wonder with a new wall color, and a new floor, if the cabinets could ever work? It's just less maintenance if you can work with the original wood color...if painting them would really help update though, I'm sure it would look nice.

If this were my kitchen to be I would stain the cabinets a darker color. A deep cherry. Then go with a neutral light color on the walls. I also would change the stove hood for something more modern in a black and glass combo.

Finally, change the pendant lights and go a bit larger to compliment the new stove hood.

The floor I would change in time.

I love sea salt 4 of my rooms are painted sea salt now .. The granit counter tops have some dark purple in them to bad that it dosent pop its washed out by the busy floors.

Im going to have the walls painted , differant back splash , light fixtures , handles, floors in the rest of the house are oak and need to be refinished . Trying to avoid painting cabinets but if I can't

The additional photos are very helpful. Since you have to refinish the rest of the floors, I recommend replacing the tile with the same oak flooring and staining it all to match. The color of the oak floors in the photo seem to be a good tone and as well as a contrast to the cabinets. You might need to speak with a contractor first because of the difference there may be in the subflooring, but it will help your space flow much better if you can continue the oak flooring.
