For the first time went in Whole Foods to look at their tomatoes.More than half were way over-ripe, some were sinking. I've sold $247 worth at $2.50/# to Birmingham restaurants over the last three weeks. Mine are way prettier than the ones I just saw, don't get me wrong, I've had some hideously uglys, especially fused blooms, but most have been real nice.Never will grow Burpee CP, biggest one off one of six plants is one nine ouncer, most in the 5-7 oz range. Baker Creek is by far the best consistent 12-14oz for the three years I've used their seeds. Japanese Black Trifle has made 27 ripe so far, Black Brandywine X3 been good.Cherry blend from Totally Tomatoes and Botanical Interests growing out of control, several over 8 feet now. Great compost. Chicken manure. Mykos.Fugaside twice a week. Great crop. Plenty for close friends.

Whole Foods prices are way too high on just about anything.

They take advantage of the public who are willing to pay a lot more for something labeled as Organic.

To me organic when it comes to fruits and vegetables means mostly a concern for the environment. IMO plants don't care what the source of NPK is.

And yes, organic produce is not sprayed with synthetic fungicide and pesticide.

But it can be sprayed, and often is.

Organic is not necessarily pesticide-free.

Also, and I've noticed this with Sprouts. They keep their tomatoes in cold storage which makes them mushy. Plain old grocery store tomatoes are much better! Not organic, but not mushy either! And they don't rot after a day or two.

Whole Foods does not keep their tomatoes in the cooler. I do know this as a fact. Organic is something that some people care about, others do not. Personally, I only eat meat from Whole Foods, because of sustainability and how humanely it was raised. Not everyone is and that is ok. Do not knock it because it cost a little more. To each their own.
