Some July Jades

I thought you might like to have a look at some of my jades:

It's a while since I posted any pictures here. If anyone else has pictures of theirs, please show them here too.

The first one, above, is a lovely, frilly-edged jade sent to me by a friend, which he calls Waves. There are other jades with the same name, one of which Christopher has shown on Garden Web.

This is a lovely Crassula arborescens, which seems more compact than the usually seen species.

This is Pink Beauty, which came from Italy last year as a tiny plant. It's growing slowly.

This lovely cutting came from another forum friend, which was quite green when it first arrived. It's wonderful what sunshine can do.

This seems to be a plant identified by Ben here as a Japanese cultivar, maybe even a hybrid. One of my sons found it in a local florist's and brought it home to me.

Hi Margaret, your care and love for them really shows as you've really brought out the best in them. All are seriously beautiful!

Here's my baby 'Denethor', sprouting from the leaf on the left.

Your last photo of 'Denethor' looks like it's going to fly away, and it reminded me of a visitor today...

Erica, I look forward to the update on your original 'Denethor' :)

I'll have to try to grab some pictures this evening to share :).

Is the fourth one the one I sent you? How is baby 'Denethor'? My little plantlet did not make it. It got too dried out in the heat we had.

Hi Erica, your Pacific Pink is doing very well, but is not very red yet. I'll take a picture of it and Denethor tomorrow. Have you no Denethor now? The red jade in the picture has a strange history, in that the person who sent me the cutting says he hasn't got a red jade ! I kept his cuttings together so I know it came from him.

Lovely! I've never seen a frilly jade like the one in the first picture - it's quite special.

Margaret - I am not sure how red, if at all, the Pacific Pink will get. Mine just usually gets very brightly colored and occasionally will just have a pink blush color to it.

I look forward to seeing those pictures. I still have to get some of mine!

I still have the original 'Denethor' plant that those two leaves originated from. I'll have to grab a picture of that one as well. It is putting on a lot of new growth at the moment.

Here are the pictures now of Erica's 'Pacific Pink', and little Denethor grown by Erica from a leaf. 'Pacific Pink' does have a lot of red, intermittent with green, in the leaves.

Denethor is in a very small pot, and there is still loads of room for it to grow.

Thank you again, Erica.

Oh, Nancy, you are right, the little plant has a butterfly-like appearance in the centre.. Is that a bougainvillea your butterfly is on?

Also, your Denethor seems darker in colour than mine - mine is greyish.

Yes indeed! It reminds me of being in tropical paradise. The lawn is fried so at least I can enjoy my succulents and tropicals.

The Denethor is under the mom plant so it hasn't had strong sunlight, maybe that's why it's greener....plus it was wet. I'll get more pics later.

'Denethor' mom looks green too

I've had this for 3 years roughly... I chopped it in the Fall and it's already grown a long branch.

I have to admit that the Denethors are growing on me. I didn't really like the leaf texture at first.

Do they grow at the same rate as the "regular" C. ovata?

Hi Liz, I've only had Denethor for four months so hopefully someone else will chime in on the growth rate. I do know that both my Denethor and ovatas have grown new sets of leaves this Spring.
