A social get-together that involved the auctioning off of boxed lunches prepared by the women. A potential sweetheart might let her man of choice know how she had decorated the box she prepared so that he would try harder to be the one to successfully buy it at auction. This was a way for young women to show off their meal-making skills. He who bought the lunch would share the meal with the one who prepared it.

Hello Everyone! This is Bump. Dad is asleep, and I thought I'd give him a break from hosting swaps, so here I am posting the August swap. This month, everyone will put together a package containing gardening items (plants optional) such as seeds, tools, gloves, magazines, decor, etc. The items can be for outdoor or indoor gardening. I'm recommending that everyone put at least (3) different types of items in their package. If you wish to include plants in your package, please do not count them as one of your three items as they may not survive due to the heat we're all getting right now. On August 13th, we will all have a chance to decide whose box we wish to receive.

Sign-ups will end at noon on August 12th, allowing me some time to get ready for the following day.

Bidding for boxes will begin on August 13th, and will take place according to the order of signing up. However, each person following you will be able to either steal your box and choose someone else's box for you, or you can leave things alone and choose a box for yourself. Once everyone has received a box of their own, we'll have the rest of the month to get those boxes sent out.

Example: Beth goes first and chooses box 4. Faye goes second and chooses box 1. Next, Deb wants box 4, so she steals it from Beth, and gives Beth box 3. Then I go and steal box 4 from Deb, and give her box 2. End result? Beth ends up with box 3, Faye keeps box 1, Deb gets box 2, and I have box 4.
