Granite 4" lip glued to my cabinets! How to safely remove?

We bought our new kitchen with plans to DIY the backsplash in order to save money. The granite was just installed and to my horror... they glued the 4" lip TO THE CABINETS. Has this ever happened to anyone?! Were you able to remove it without ruining your cabinets? How? I want to remove the 4" lip completely. I haven't been able to find much about this particular problem. Thanks!

I don't understand why you even had a 4" backsplash installed -- it's a separate piece, so you could have specified leaving it out.

I think that portion of the cabinets will be ruined underneath -- they probably used thinset, not glue. I'd try to find a backsplash that matches well enough that you can leave the lip in place. Sorry you have to deal with this.

Backsplash doesn't belong there. They should removes and repair or replace the cabinet on that side.

We didn't ask for it... they just did it. I'm going to ask the builder to remove it, but I can pretty much guarantee they tell me to pound sand :(

If you have a written contract, then either the backsplash is listed on there, in which case you walk a beach, or it isn't, in which case they get your cabinets refinished as needed.

The part where they glued the lip to your cabinet must be a mistake, so you have a fighting chance.
