Dining room!

I'm getting ready to paint our dining room this weekend. I picked out SW Krypton for the walls but am on the fence about the ceiling. I was going to paint the inside of the coffered areas Krypton but after seeing this photo on Instagram I'm leaning towards painting it the same color as the trim which is SW Shell White. The first pic is my actual dining room, the second pic is Krypton, and the third pic is the dining I've found on Instagram. What do you think?!

    Thank you Patti!!!

Have you purchased a sample size of the Krypton and actually tried it on your walls? It's a very cool blue. That may be just what you're looking for but try a sample size before buying a gallon or two and then finding out it's not quite what you had in mind.

    A couple of other observations...

Drapes are too short and they would look better with a lining.

The rug also looks too small. The back chair legs should still be on the rug when the chairs are pulled out.

Here is a picture of Krypton done by a designer fyi for visual in a living room.

    Camelot Reserve · More Info

I would get full floor to ceiling white linen like curtain panels and a textured larger rug, seagrass of have broadloom bound and sized so you have chairs on carpet when chairs are pulled out as was mentioned above.

Possibly paint your chairs white and do cream linen cushions to pull in carpet color and texture.

Love your chandelier and assume that is driving all your decisions.....it is lovely and probably destined to be a classic.

Thanks for the input everyone! We just built a semi-custom home and one of the things we didn't get to choose (at least not without a crazy price tag) was the paint. Needless to say, I HATE it, so slowly but surely we are painting every room. The bulk of the house will be Worldly Gray and I know Krypton and WG look great together and I tested it on my walls to be extra sure.

I agree on the curtain length too....trust me, it drives me nuts, so dropping the hem is on my short list of things to do. Unfortunately, our ceilings are so high that's it's hard to buy pre-made curtains.

The rug will have to do for now but I agree it should be bigger (there's only so many things I can buy at once so a larger rug will have to wait).

The chairs and table can't be painted, they are a family heirloom and I love them the way they are and they go with a beautiful hutch that isn't pictured. Currently the seat cushions are done in a creamy white so at least that part is taken care of.

And yes, the chandelier is the centerpiece and I LOVE it to say the least and that beauty will be there for years to come. :-)

I have officially decided to paint the ceiling a creamy white that will match the trim. I think it'll look beautiful when it's all done.

    Thanks again everyone!!

Make sure they paint the whole ceiling with the higher trim sheen - then it transforms the entire look to be that of casework - congrats on your new home and colors!

Here is your color in a dining room.

You didn't ask - but if it's in your budget, get a few yards of a solid fabric that works with your drapes. Have a border put on the leading edge and bottom. When you put your rod back up (after painting), move it all the way up to the crown. Your furnishings are beautiful. Please share when you complete the paint job.

Very strange about not getting to choose the paint without paying a huge up charge. Why does the builder care what color his painters put on the walls? If you wanted a brand of "expensive" paint then the only extra charge would be the difference. While typing I realized that if they use a paint sprayer to cover the walls then they'd have to clean it and that might be the huge charge? But still huge seems odd.

Yes, you could add a border to the drapes to make them longer but not at the top and bottom. Bottom is enough. The panels are actually too narrow for the windows as well as being too short.

Leelee - as much as I'd like to say I appreciate your input, you are being extremely rude. As I mentioned before, I realize my curtains are too short and it's something I already planned on fixing. As much as you think they are too narrow, they actually aren't. They fit the width of the window perfectly. All I asked for input on was whether I should paint the ceiling white to match the trim or blue like the walls but you have taken it upon yourself to nit pick the room and I don't appreciate it at all.

Done!! I might drop the hem on the curtains a little more and eventually I'll get a larger rug but I love how it turned out!

I love how this color looks in your space. I'm actually going out to get a sample of this color for my dining room as I have been eyeing it for a while.
