You water it once a day, unless it needs more?? Wow. Where are you? The Sahara Desert? Or maybe when you water you just put a few drops on? Keeping the soil surface moist is not a healthy strategy for any plant.

No. It is just hot and humid during the day and it's in a pot with really good drainage. I water it every morning, and when I do, the soil is dry.

That doesn't sound like good soil. You need soil that can hold water. BTW, humidity makes it less likely to need water. The more humid it is, the slower water evaporates. When you say "the soil is dry", you mean the surface? Well, no kidding. But that's not where the roots are. Stick your finger in the soil and see how moist it is an inch or two down.

I do stick my finger down in the soil. I water it when it needs it, like I said.

Best is to leave it alone. It will usually scab over and recover and if you try to splint it or anything it only does more damage. If it doesn't begin to perk back up within a couple of days, just cut it off right at the injury. Often a new branch will sprout from the node just below your cut.
