Our inspection revealed vermiculite / zonolite in the attic eaves of the roof down to the 2nd floor ceiling plate. Sellers are having it tested for asbestos but we are operating under the assumption that it is asbestos contaminated. We aren't comfortable with leaving it and not disturbing it etc. as we have planned renovations that would disturb it and the walk up attic was a great storage place from our perspective so we would still like access to that space.

I'm thinking the sellers may be agreeable to removal/abatement and re-insulation prior to closing - otherwise we are likely walking based on this discovery. If it's properly abated are there any lingering contamination concerns post-abatement? Some articles are saying abatement can cause more harm than good with disturbing asbestos fibers and having them re-distributed throughout the house even with proper certified removals. Anyone successfully dealt with this issue?
