The wall color is selected based on the rest of the home and the furnishings selected.

I would paint the ceiling and then glaze it. Wall color will be determined by your furnishings, window coverings and rug/floor.

You can go two ways:. Paint entire ceiling (including tray) white to contrast the dark wall or you can take ypur sample paint strip with the wall color paint sample on it & take the next color down to paint outside trim of tray ceiling & the next (lighter color) to that on the top of tray I've used this technique several times & it looks great.
