Funny, a few years back most of the members there were on here, then for some reason most abandoned GW.

But MANY of the members there are extremely knowledgeable and helpful, and a couple of the best also happen to be a bit acidic at times. IMO, its too good a resource to abandon.

What some of them think about GW may be due to the adverts here, I ignore the ads. I also think some have a mindset that it's a Florida club :-)

I have been to many of the members homes and find the vast majority of members friendly, and helpful.

TF Fernandez who rips GW and is. .a very angry man. Funny but there he said my Aultafo is "garbage"..but here on GW from 2014 he's giddy happy that not only did he acquire Autalfo- but he bought SEVERAL!!. He also proclaimed my Baileys Marvel as "garbage". On the internet,it won a few taste testings! My first post ever there he came back with "Bay Area? Avocados wont even grow there." So,still being polite I posted TWO 40's tree's in my own neighborhood. He said it wasn't enough!

They abandoned web because most are misogynist,and don't like woman posting. Others like TF were just racist telling me to go back to Chinatown.

Do you remember the guy who calls himself "The Bullie"? Not a friendly guy either. So angry he posted one drunken typed answer. Amazingly..I didnt ask the angry guys there opinions. They though,flamed every post I made.

The Irony? I have the credentials (THEY demanded to know) of working in the Natural Sciences and Biological sciences. For University's and Museums and Bio- labs. They only know what they can grow in their backyard where they live. The Hort field is huge..I learn everyday. Being told that what I KNOW is not correct-with putdowns added? That's just too much to listen to.

AND STILL,they told me what I could not even try to grow here in my yard!.lol.

Its by far the worst collection of wannabe's. I can tell you too Gnapp, those boards that specialize? Seem to be the worst over the generalists. Its gets elitist.

I think the hostile from the start was also that I'm from the bay area-lefty bay area- and have expertise. Their loss.

All duly noted, what some fail to see about GW is the VAST collection of forums from japanese gardens to temperate gardening.

I agree this site is a treasure, but I wish there were less OLD reposts and more from new members posting.

GW didn't make it easy by summarily changing login names for older members or making contacting members difficult. We will see.

I think Gary that good old boyism? Its why..and I said that to the ITF members,I dont see any name horts locally ever posting on boards. Experts who get shouted down by - as one hort told me- "Gods gift to horticulture hobbyists". They all do Facebook or blogs where they get more polite conversations.

One thing about those experts like Frank Fernandez and the rest? They were so wrong,so often,they ignored other posts of what can be grown. That's how you become a little fruit tree dictator,lol.

I never had to recite my "credentials" ever on any board. I'm more blue collar personalty who worked with Scientists for years. So,I'm no snob,if anything, I'm "pro -grow" all over the internet.
