Is there anything you know you want to move in there that might influence your wall colour decision? You mention a new sofa, but what about an existing rug, or art, or chairs, or drapes that you know you will want to use? If not, I suggest that you think about those elements of the room before deciding on the wall colours.

One thing that is in place that would affect your choice, of course, is the fireplace -- but do you intend to keep it as is?

Here's a combination of ivory, greige, blue and (smoked?) salmon -- I like the greige because it tones with the putty grey of the fireplace and takes it perhaps a small step closer to the warmth of the brick. Do you like the way this room works?

Mira, I didn't mean that you should like that particularly bright salmon. Just asking whether you liked the combination of ivory and greige with the colours you already have -- the way that the salmon and blue work well against those two colours. A more subtle salmon, or slightly different blues, would work in a similar way. In fact a more subtle salmon would work better, in my opinion.

So what I'm saying is that you might like to use a combination of ivory (which is already in your furnishings) with greige for your trim and walls respectively.

PS One thing I like about what I posted is that the two neutrals do not contrast greatly, they are very subtle -- unlike the existing wall/trim colours which are extremely contrasty. The ivory is only slightly lighter than the greige.

I think a straight grey would not blend well with the warm colour of the fireplace -- if I'm seeing it correctly on my screen. Of course, Danielle, I don't know what you are seeing on your screen.
