Paint the dark window trim white. Warm taupe or tan for the body. You really need some plants.

I was thinking that it would look good if you beef-up your posts on your porch. You build a bigger box around them. It has to still fit under the ceiling of your porch. If you could build out the trim on your doors and windows it would give your home even more character. With the dark body and crisp white trim and posts, your house will take on a whole new look.

Something like Surfmist or shale grey. When you do some landscaping it will all come together

Concrete block is an honest material and lends itself to a contemporary rather than a cottage sort of style result . . with that in mind, there are a range of options. Let me study the roof tone and come back with some c hoices for your consideration.

So - first discussion is that with concrete block, when you are ready for a different look, the no-muss solution is "dash" or stucco - where a finish coat of stucco is applied directly to the concrete block.

Back to color. Your roof is a fairly light true gray. Except for contemporary applications, the rule of thumb is that the house should be lighter than the roof. However, colors lighten at least one full shade on an exterior due to the abundance of light. So, even a mid tone in the 40's LRV wise are likely to appear lighter than this roof. I would stay away from true grays because with concrete block they can look too institutional. Unless you go really contemporary with a black exterior (not suggesting this - just saying it is an option) I'd avoid those tones for the body.

Your neighbors all have embraced traditional white cottages . . because they have siding and you don't, you can't easily compete on the "cutesy cottage" front. A mod cottage, however, can really do a lot of good.

One approach would be to paint your concrete block in a pale neutral and paint all the trim: sills and screens and windows and doors a cheerful red or greek blue - Not the posts for the porch or the fascia- those would be a couple shades deeper

off the house neutral.

For a contemporary application, like the dark navy suggested previously, you would find a light / mid tone gray to do the windows so it echoed the roof and try something like a butter yellow door.

DO NOT paint your windows white unless it is part of the scheme - most people have to have white windows due to vinyl and yours are paintable - that is cool and unique and don't give it away ..

If you are considering eventually adding shutters ..

one sided board and batten rustic shutters would be cool here on galvinized overhead barn rails . . .. if you did them in a high end cedar / stained, then you could go to a mid tone true gray on the house because it would have contrast . . something like bm whale gray with stonington trim . .

Then you would need to add cedar braces at the posts / maybe wrap posts with cedar 1x for the look of 6x6 ..

that would be sort of barn rustic industrial .. site fences . . horizontal natural cedar are contemporary and would embrace the block for good . .

A deep forest green with white trim and windows would be another mod cottage approach .. front door in a mid tone blue green ..
