Front Door Help!

Hi All,

I'm trying to pick a fiberglass front door for my house under construction pictured below. I really have no idea what style to go for. We prefer not to have glass on the actual door, but we will have side lights. The height is 6'8" and there is plenty of width to play with.

The front is a granite gray cedar shake impression and we will be installing the echo ridge country ledge stone pictured below for the whole first floor (including around the garage where the old siding is showing).

The triangle gable over the front door will actually by white azek instead of the siding shown, and will be "supported" by white columns. We will also be adding shutters next to each window (white or black - feel free to opine on this too :)

Any suggestions for door style, finish/color that would go with this style house?

A traditional yet countrified door . . you have a bit of a farmhouse thing going here . . the stone is beautiful. It has an earthy color in it, so you could do a wood look door if you keep the wood tone rustic and high contrast back to your gray. Since your windows are white, but don't have trim around them, the congruent trim color is another crisp white on the trim around the door and on the sidelights. What is the door style on the interior of the home? You have arc topped windows under the entry gable. You might do a arch top panel door with sidelights. Note that the top of the door is square, but the arc / eyebrow is repeated here from your upper windows. This is the kind of wood finish that will resonate with the stone and your house. They have metal doors with wood look finishes . . or fiberglass . .you don't have to buy a high end wood door to get the look anymore.

Thanks, this is very helpful. Would this door but in a slightly darker finish also work?

Someone else I spoke to recommended the door below, in a darker finish. It's more of a modern look, but I wondering if it would work with the style of the house?

That is a very contemporary door. Your house is not at all contemporary, so no, I could not recommend this door for your house - it doesn't fit at all. Your windows are divided, for instance, and these are not. It is a door for a highly contemporary house.

Here's a look I skipped over due to the mention of no glass . .this is a more updated style that would be great in your house .. Glass high up for privacy to the street in both door and sidelights . . you can paint your door a pretty bright color to make the house feel more updated farmhouse . . but we need to pick a color that works with your stone .. wood look would be most traditional, but black or charcoal would be great, safe choices, and a bright Dijon yellow could be terrific. Paint grade doors do cost less than wood doors.

Please do not put shutters on this house. You don't have room for them and they're gonna look dorky.

The stone will make your home look very solidly built so you'll want a strong looking door, too. The very first suggestion for a front door is a great one -- the suggestion from ibradesigneye.

My opinion---No shutters and a substantial wooden (or wood like) door. The door you ask about is not at all in keeping with the style of the house. If you want window(s) in the door, go with something that other posters have shown!
