Korean Pine

Early this year I order 3 Korean Pine from an Ontario nursery in the southern part of the province, in their terms and conditions section they state that the trees are dug when dormant and stored until they are shipped, great. When I got the trees though they already had a minimum of 2" of growth and the root system was growing at a very sharp angle to the stem ( L root ). The trees looked healthy. I messaged the nursery immediately along with pictures and was told that they were perfectly fine. I planted the trees even though I was totally disgusted that someone would think that nothing was wrong with these trees. The candles died back of course and 2 of the trees have done nothing visible so far. One tree has pushed needles with a bud in the centre, some places just a bud. In the Spring I will dig them up and do root surgery on them and hope they have put out more roots in better places. What a PITA.
