I would not paint the bathroom a dark color. With a light colored ceiling and floor, it would look like a long corridor.

I would just change the mirror and add arts with colors in them.

Yes it was taken at night. I'll upload a day photo tomorrow. it does look better but I'm still not in love with it. A new mirror is a fab idea!!! Should it have dark accents or keep with the light tone?

Whatever you like.... I have canvas art in my bathroom, and it's easy, just wipe off any water...

I take it you don't need [privacy?] a shower curtain....reduce a drafty feeling when taking a bath... just one idea if you found art for over towel bar you like:

Your vanity seems quite long. I believe you have room for some flowers, colored containers, candles etc.

I would totally paint it. Pick something you like that agree with your counter. I don't feel the wall color really goes with your counter and that's part of the disjointed problem you are feeling. How would a nice teal look in there on the walls? What type of lighting does the room have? I agree with some art on the wall and accessories, but feel painting is your best bet.

A quick update to the mirror is to frame it using moulding. Easy DIY exercise & it would make the room look more finished. Easier to do this than try & take existing mirror off the wall. Secondly, there does not appear to be a shower over the bath so do you really need a shower curtain particularly if you are bathing children it just gets in the way? I agree totally with others that have commented you can go with any colour scheme that takes your fancy as essentially you have a neutral background. I would place a cheap print on the wall near the bath as that is the wall your eye hits first. I say cheap because eventually over several years the moisture will affect it even without a shower running. You can then choose a totally different one & then you can change your colour scheme. I personally would choose the print first & then select my towels. You will have numerous choices as depicted in mock ups below. I selected two prints very randomly & showed you how many choices you can have with towels (again selected at random) to demonstrate just how many options you have - the world is your oyster modern, traditional, country, hampton whatever! I would also place a neatly folded co-ordinating bath mat over the edge of the bath.

Finally I would accessorise the countertop with flowers or a plant & other jars for cottonballs, soaps etc. & place them in a small tray to keep them neatly together. These options will not break the bank & by keeping the walls etc. as is, you can change the look whenever you have a whim without going near a paint tin. I think all Houzzers are steering you in the same direction. Good luck!

Not sure why everyone is suggesting a shower curtain for a bathtub that has no shower? I wouldn't add one, it'll just be in the way. But I do love the idea of adding color on the walls, something a little deep and saturated. Artwork too, and colorful fluffy towels, rug. You have a very nice base to work with.

I would paint the walls. SW Silver Mist is a beautiful blue/green color. Behr Flint Smoke is a beautiful blue/gray. BM Revere Pewter is a beautiful warm gray that goes with everything. Add pretty white towels, a couple of large pictures on the wall opposite the vanity, a pretty contrasting or coordinating rug in front of the vanity, and a mirrored tray with accessories as mentioned above. If you have an electrical outlet on your vanity that would be out of the way, you could also add a small lamp stacked on a couple of books that would go along with your accent color. Paint will pull everything together and give you a color to use as an accent. Hope this helps!

Wow - thank you all so much for your input. I am getting a lot of really great ideas.

With respect to the shower curtain, I will not add one because it's not a shower (the shower is off to the right out of the photograph). I love the idea of adding a large picture on the back wall.

To answer some questions, I am definitely more into neutral colors (but my bathroom is currently too muted/boring). And chic to me is more of 'glam chic' in the sense of shiny/sparkling things, silver colors, silvery wallpaper, etc.

I think I do want to paint the wall but do you think, since it's so narrow, I should stick with a light color? And what are your thoughts about wallpaper near the tub instead of a picture?

The first thing that I see in your bathroom is the speckled countertop. Try hanging up a large piece of art that you love on the wall opposite the entrance, so that it's the first thing you see in the bathroom.

Fabric does soften a tiled room / makes an impact with whatever color-design....

I like the sink cabinet and counter top. Definitely do something about the mirror. Frame it or find something else that enhances the sink. Put in some nice lights over the mirror. Go ahead and paint the walls something that will enhance the sink colors if you like but you may not need to once you change the other things. Tile around the tub but don't go crazy... There are a lot of trends out there right now that will get dated quickly. White subway tile with maybe some accents and a nice glass surround (maybe rain glass for privacy) are always in style. Or just tile and install a nice curtain. Add some funky artwork, coordinating towels and accessories and you'll be good.

A colorful and patterned runner rug can make a big impact in a neutral bathroom. It injects energy to the space, and you can keep the walls as is since they function as negative space that makes the rug pop.

Take advantage of the counter space and add a white or metallic tray with perfume, flowers, and maybe even candles to give you that glam chic feel.

Framing the mirror is also a good option. Make the frame the same color as your vanity cabinets for a cohesive look.

You can also have fun with the wall above the tub and make it an accent wall with a large artwork, wallpaper, or even tiles, but in a color scheme that is much different from the beige walls in order to make them to pop.

For all of the suggestions above, you don't have to repaint the walls.

You can also paint the walls with wide horizontal stripes of alternating shade (or shine) of the same color (or different colors but same color family) to add some interest while keeping the space neutral.
