I wish there were more options for larger patterned rugs. There are some out there but they cost more than all my furniture combined! Patterned is preferred for me but I have plain because it's all I could afford in the size I needed.

I am a big fan of keeping walls and furniture neutral and then adding texture, pattern and colour through my accessories. Patterned rugs all the way!

I find I mostly gravitate towards patterned rugs, especially a geometric pattern or an ikat kilim rug. West Elm and Francesca Gentilli have some beautiful ones, in all shapes, sizes and prices! Although a great, affordable option is the Ikea Lohals rug, a lovely flat woven alternative if you want to play it safe with a plain rug.

Plain furniture = patterned rug (and vica versa)

I recommend geometric and floral patterns because they add splash of colour and design that provide the ultimate statement piece & pulls your whole interior scheme together.

It wouldn't go in my living room, but the rug in the top left photo is so beautiful!

Mine are old Turkish rugs, rather threadbare now, I like the dark reds, blues and greens in them and do not worry too much about anything being spilt on them, or them being chewed by the pups. I do like plain rugs, but feel I'd spend all my time trying to keep them clean, there's a lot to be said for a pattern hiding a multitude of sins.

I went with an oriental rug over seagrass.

We make bespoke rugs here in Scotland and it is interesting that your voting pattern as of today's date just about mirrors the proportion we make in the different design styles! Must admit Geometric has been running strongly in the last 6 months.

It's very difficult to find the perfect patterned rug so I usually stick to plain even though I prefer patterned. Striped? Awful.
