Blackfox in Houzz pic:. Same white Quartz tops, same backsplash. The range is super bright orange, and the hood is pro style- straight stainless to the ceiling. It won't be dark....

What about making the backsplash white tiles and then using dark cabinets? Do you get a ton of natural light in this room? I painted a room blue grey once because I love darker colors and it didn't come out the way I expected.

Meant to add that there just isn't much contrast between the tile and paint choices but the grout and the range will contrast. What counter are you thinking? I'm assuming you're not worried about resale at all?

No way is she going to change those backsplash tiles out and she should not.

I just spent about $1800 on the backsplash, so no, not changing. :0) the counters are brand new- straight white Quartz. My feeling is that a gray that is darker than the backsplash will actually make it stand out. The house is overall Midcentury. I am redoing a lot of it, step by step. Modern with a strong MCM nod. Here in Portland, OR, this kind of strong, unusual design won't detract from resale. This will add to it. We are definately not in a conservative market. This is the living/ dining room just adjacent to the kitchen.

Anyone who likes this style will hopefully appreciate the style of the kitchen, dark grey cabinets and orange range notwithstanding. :0) rooms actually get a lot of natural light- two huge picture windows and a slider.

I'm going to live with the samples for a week, before letting the contractor know.

I'm in the Pipeline camp. See more taupe undertones in that one. To my eye, the cabinets in the photo from Hardware Solutions look lighter than that sample of Black Fox you painted. Probably computer interpretation.

Love love the orange stove color choice. A happy color. We have orange in our cabin and never tire of it.
We have an orange with grey and believe it or not burgundy kilm rug that looks fantastic.
Grey and orange is very sophisticated...and different!!

Keep in mind...the darker you go with cabinets the more dust and hand/grease marks you can see....

Thanks hmarney- we have to carefully consider whether semi floss or satin is the way to go, given the color choice. Burgundy, huh? :0)

Pipeline is my choice. I think it will do what you want. It has tones similar to backsplash and I think it will look stunning! Remember, dark colors "recede" visually so darker is better. I can see this and I so admire your vision. This will be gorgeous. I suggest you separate your samples so you aren't looking at them together. Also, take photos from a distance of the space. Photos reveal things we miss with the naked eye. See what you see! Also, another trick. Take a piece of plain paper. Take a pin and put a hole in the paper. Then peek through that hole and review your choices. These little ways force you to look through different eyes. It is kind of like cleansing your palette. Go for it!

On the paint finish, in your case, I would choose satin. More shine will distract in my view.

I should point out, that colors on computer screens are totally off, so you have to take our thoughts with a grain of salt on colors, but I have the sample decks and I still stick with Pipeline, for color, tone, combo affect with all elements, etc. ;0

Another check. Is this Miller Paint? Just checking. That was what I assumed. Another thing to look at tonight is check the color with your stone in your adjoining room. It looks good on my monitor but hard to be sure.

Flo, Hi, yes its a Miller Paint color (local fav here in oregon). The contractor has their own paint base they like to use on finished cabinetry, but they'll use the Miller color formula. I will check it against the stone. That wall is actually wallpaper we had hung, but the fireplace is white brick. How can I thank you enough?

Do get a sample door done, because when "bases" are different you get different color results. I guarantee it will be a bit different, so just as long as you get sample so you know what will be coming and you are OK with it. OK, wallpaper looks great. I thought you painted the center area of stone, which looks great by the way. I think you have a great eye. Your kind words are enough. If you wish to post a "review" that would be nice. Good luck. This is so exciting :-) I love the pattern of the backsplash! Such a great change from safe-subway tile. Who is the mfg? and does it come in other colors? My kitchen is small and dark, but I really do like the graphic style of the backsplash.

Amazing appliance. I would go with a lighter gray color to keep the space open since your back splash is darker and the room is smaller. You want to make the space feel much more open! Good luck with everything.

Flo, the entire neighborhood came out to see the crane....... it was amusing. It weights 400 lbs! No way I'm ever going to try to move it. The appliance installers will have to come back out when we're ready for floors. I will definately post pictures during the next phase. Thankfully, I have 3 months off now with NO contractors....=0)

Hi Flo! We are waiting on the custom stainless duct cover to be installed prior to scheduling the cabinet guys. Duct cover has been a challenge due to vaulted ceiling and the angle. But it looks like mid November the cabinets will get their facelift! It will be a huge piece of the transformation.... I can't wait! I'll certainly post pictures. Thanks for all your help.

oh, and btw, I LOVE the Bluestar range. Cooking in it has been a pleasure, and the bright orange makes me smile daily.

Hi Flo! Well, now we've determined that the new floor needs to go in at the same time as the caninets get redone (because we only want to take out appliances once to save money on the uninstall/ reinstall. SO that means we need another &3k for the news hardwoods. Which means we wait til Feb. I tell Ya, it's like one big cascading waterfall of decisions and costs! On the bright side, I could not be happier with the bright Orange Bluestar range. Oh my!!!

This is so typical, but you will be very happy you are doing things that way. Waiting is OK when you are doing it right the "first" time. Hope Thanksgiving in your new range is spectacular! Thanks for the update. Looking for to next year's update!

Hi Eilene. Just thinking about your kitchen?! How are things going?

Flo, so nice of you to ask! Work on the cabinets is scheduled for last week of February, so at least we've got a date certain now. We had a custom stainless duct cover made for over the hood, so its looking slick! I'm currently ordering samples of handles for the cabinets... they will be stainless, rectangular, and substantial--- about 7" long, 1.3" wide. That will amp up the modern factor, and will also take the taupe/grey cabinet/drawer fronts and make them pop. Photos forthcoming when its complete!

Flo, here's a picture of the range installed with the hood and the custom duct cover. That duct cover was a bear because we have a sloped ceiling! But now we are ready for the cabinet redo as well as having walls painted same whtite as the trim will be....I'll post that in early March! Oh, and also, here's the pull I chose for all doors/drawers.

Hi, just in case anyone wanted to see the cabinets in finished state, here they are! My iPhone camera isn't great, and the pics were taken with only under cabinet lighting, but they look amazing! New floors go in monday, light fixtures, and a wall of white cabinets behind the photographer.

lesson: if you're going to paint cabinets, have sample doors done, and hire a professional. No way I could have done this level of finish.

Flo, hello again! Yes, those are Flor tiles. We purchased extras, and have them ready to replace older ones if they somehow get stained, etc. so far, wearing well. As to my patience- well, I’ve had to be patient, but it’s not easy. Painters here (for the walls) weren’t available all summer due to their exterior jobs. Professional “after” pictures coming someday.
