The model home actually had a standing lamp on either side of their tv stand. We have the same floor plan as the model. We added tons of recessed lighting and I have lamps on both end tables. Would there be too many lights in the room?

I'd put a floor lamp on one side and this on the other (shown in pic). Sorry my pic sucks so bad but I tried lol. And the scale is obviously wayyy off
Oh and I will add: some people like symmetry but to me I like to mix things up. All up to you. I like the two floor lamps idea as well, but it seems like there is a TON of space between the bench and the tv and a leaning shelf is a bit bigger

Actually, I would just add the shelf and not the floor lamp on the other side. It's just I wanted to combine that other good idea!!

You're not really showing us enough of the room to help you. There is likely a better way to lay out the whole room

Not sure what the bench is for. With all the pillows I guess you don't expect anyone to sit on the bench.

You could use a longer tv stand. It would help balance the wall. Other posters gave examples.

If you want to keep everything in place, I would do a tall picture. But I do agree w others...perhaps if budget is right get a longer tv console OR remove bench completely. Bench is very cute but awkward in the space.

Put a large plant pot if you like plants/trees or floor lamp

Your balance and dimensions are off. The first thing the needs to change is the rug under your coffee table. It is too small. The rug should be large enough that the front portion of the sofa sits on it. Secondly, the TV stand is quite small for such a large TV. You need to create a bigger stand. So you need something large on either side of the stand to elongate it. Either very tall floor lamps, book cases, wall mirrors. Anything to create height and width.

Once you create a bigger focal around the tv you can now move into something smaller and intimate around the bench like a larger picture, small grouping of framed photos, a mirror.

But move the rug.

here are other angles of the room for the person who said they needed to see more of the space. It's an open floor plan so it has living, kitchen, and dining room visible when you walk in

one more. that area behind the chair was designed to be a small eating area but with the huge island and the dining room on the other side of the kitchen we thought that was too many eating areas. but its an awkward space too

The armoire by the door is a great idea.

I actually think the two stuffed chairs would look great on either side of the TV. But if you generally have 4 people watching TV, that would not be practical.

The bench Is by the front door. I don't think the space is really that awkward looking. A piece of art above the bench will make it more substantial.

Larger rug--much larger at least a 8 x 10 possibly 9 x 12.

The bench is too small and it doesn't seem to belong there or have a real purpose other than a space filler which is doesn't do well.

Don't add shelves! You will instantly create another design dilemma.

You could use a large palm or tree like this fiddle leaf fig. Big plants can make a big difference.

Floor lamps will not be a good addition for that wall because they're skinny and don't take up any space.

As someone else mentioned a TV console that's twice as long as what you have now.

You could use a mirror above the bench, so that you are not really looking at yourself while you watch TV:

If you're looking to fill that space AND build around the bench, I suggest a custom wall unit with a mix of organizational elements - shelves for displaying home decor, cubbies for housing smaller items, and cabinets for extra storage. Beats having to put holes in your wall time and time again whenever you want to hang a new picture or display a new collection. LED strips make great accents as well.

If you settle for an off-the-shelf wall unit, you'll end up with a ton of wasted space, as opposed to being able to design something that specifically works in that limited area and around the bench.

Bigger longer tv console

I would suggest either art work on the wall in the space in between the bench and the tv stand or to just remove the bench completely. The bench could even work outside (backyard or front porch area) so it can still add to your home.

I like the idea of a living plant. Something low (not higher than the arm of the bench) and wide like a splath.(sp) This plant doesn't require direct light. It will be low enough to keep the room airy but provide definition from the entry to the living area.

I would recommend placing a plant between the bench and the TV. It will avoid cramming the room with additional furniture as well as brighten the room with a pop of color.

I see a little of what looks like another console in the dining room, is it longer than the one under the tv. Try switching them, the color might help too since its darker. A real plant might do it next to bench. Don't face the chairs to the tv unless it's the focal point in your living room, square the to the sofa. Bring rug and coffee table closer to sofa you might get away with the smaller rug.

This type of look for a super long credenza

I personally would get rid of both pieces - they are too small to go with your couch and chair. I'd get a longer credenza or an entertainment center with some bookshelves on each side.

Take your two chairs flanking the sofa and turn then at 90 degree angles from the couch, n so they are facing each other as opposed to angled like they are now. That will define that area as a separate space from the entry hall and the vast of wall wont seem so odd. Then put a tall plant just to the side of tv (towards door). Finally a larger rug that reaches under tha sofa amd 2 chairs will further define that area. Then "furnish" that entry area separately with either a mirror above bench, or a bookcase or a large frames painting.

To me, the angled chairs is whats causing the problem. I realize you want to watch tv but it just doesnt look right Chairs should be arranged for conversation.

on suggestions we moved the chairs, moved the rug more towards the couch. Looks nice but I don't like the idea of seeing the back of the chair when you first walk in

Maybe sharing one of our living room designs will help you. Take note of what's beside the TV.

Moved the bench by the door. Might look good with a horizontal coat rack. The more stuff I move around the more confused I get.

The bench loooks good in that spot but maybe a little crowded? Can you open and get thru the door easily? If so try removing the pillows or all but just 1 and use one basket next to it. I think the living area looks much better with the chairs angled in. Can you switch the otomman to the other chair so the one nearest the door is pushed in more? Try a pretty textured throw blanket in a contrasting color draped over the back which may help soften the "seeing the back of the chair" issue

I'll have my husband help me move the ottoman tomorrow and see how that looks. We put the bench back where it was, it did look a bit crowded plus we didn't know where to put the piece of furniture we had to move to put the bench there. This is what happens when you have a house built in another state but start buying furniture for it before you move lol

What if you put the armoire where the bench was. Then use the little nook area where armoire oreviously lives for a computer desk area? Try the flloor plant next to tv too, but really the larger rug will give you the best impact
