Bar area in our entrance/living room

So it's hot here in Washington state, and I was doing some research on Houzz about a bar. Thought you might be interested in helping? Photos - would be lovely!

Looking to set-up a bar that would contain, bottles, glassware, wine cooler. Must be clean and neat, so there is less maintenance of glassware etc. Or these items are inside.

Was thinking about an antique piece that would have a mirror and artwork over it? Maybe a built-in, but that would be lower on the budget, but maybe the right one?? (Excuse artwork, trying frames and prints out before we buy)

Open concept room with foyer/living/dining/kitchen all in the same room

Photos are in this order from left to right:

Front door / entryway / looking into office.

Future Bar area (chair removed) 55 deep and 75 long

Living room area

Dining room area

Thank you in advance for your suggestions and ideas. Stay cool!

Deborah

You won't find an existing cabinet that can be retrofit to receive the depth of a wine cooler 24"+. It will have to be something completely custom possibly using cabinets from a kitchen cabinet fabricator.

This custom cabinet is 72" wide

Not sure an open bar is a good idea if there are children in the home.

Beverly, Thank you for your professional opinion. All great ideas to consider. No young kids in the home (all adults), just kitties. The entry table looks small in the photo, but seats 4 for dinner, when we need a back-up table. Also there is enough room around it to get in the door, and then to the closet. I did consider a larger table, but then again traffic flow. I have to remember bigger - is better in the open concept home. Have a wonderful weekend there in Ft. Meyers! Many thanks, Deborah.

I wasn't recommending a larger table. I was recommending a round rug in the entry.

Are there any electrical outlets for a wine cooler in that corner where the lonely chair is in your photo #2? That looks to be a likely spot for a bar.

Bev - sorry, that rug was a leftover from the office. Will be looking for a round rug in the future.

decoenthusiaste - yes! There are two outlets that would work for this project. Or just add another one. And yes, the lonely chair. It was a must when I had the furniture build, and it's just a placeholder for now. When the bar settles in, the chair has a friend in the bedroom. Thanks for your interest in our project.

I don't know where you live, but we have some awesome flea markets here and I would hunt those for a great interesting piece that I could make adjustments to and make a "statement" piece. You have a lot of dark wood, so I would look for something you could paint a metallic color or for an Art Deco buffet type piece. Something you could make reflective and a conversation piece.

Various types of ideas that could be modified to meet your needs. Use your imagination to find some piece or pieces that you could convert. So much better than a "built-in". Your kitchen area is not far from this space, so I don't think you need refrigerator there? Not sure how much you could fit in that area. Just do a scale drawing with detailed dimensions and take it with you "hunting" along with a tape measure and "discover" and repurpose something no one would imagine taking this form! Totally fun.

Flo, Thank you. I saw three out of the four photos that you posted, and loved each one. My husband and I just saw an ice chest at a interior design store, but it was new and we thought it should be more worn. I do want to have that one of a kind piece, and will just have to hit the streets to find it. We are located 20 minutes from Mt. St. Helens, in Washington State.

I loved the repurposing of the church pieces, although I might feel guilty serving drinks at the "alter"! Sure was creative though. Using "chalk paint" you could really brighten up that corner with something that says "fun starts here!"

Flo - great suggestions. I do try to change things up, but sometimes forget. I will travel into the depths of the closets and go up into the attic to see what I can find. Thanks for the reminder!

Flo - Hi again! I want to go down so many creative paths, but then I'm pulled back as this home is really a lodge style home. Loads of windows that pull nature in. I'm always inspired by Ralph Lauren and his cozy, yet elegant rooms. LOL - loved the "alter" joke!

Flo - P.S. We have those chairs at the island. The ones in the alter photo.

iSAW - What a great site you have! I will take a deeper look and then stand back and see what might fit into our space. I do appreciate you taking the time to reach out to me with this terrific option.

Just play on that theme then. Tiki lounge in "lodge" style! Metal overhang, log bar, natural edge bar top. It could be done.

You folks are clearly right on top of this. Thanks for taking the steps necessary to keep our Houzz - our home. Such people really need to find something better to do with their time.

Life is hard enough with out these folks. Now, I don't feel bad about saying this person was "lost"! Love Michigan, grew up in the Chicago area. People there are just all around great. Thanks.

Danielle - Quick check at home improvement store - $10,000. But I know it can be done for less. Just need to be creative. Thanks for the photo and the advise.
