2016 Wandering Stitchers Retreat reminder

So far I only have 6 signed up for this year's retreat. We have reserved the Guenther Lodge at Holston Presbytery Camp and Retreat Center http://www.holstoncenter.org/. Here are the details:

Dates: Wed, Oct 12 thru Sun Oct 16 (we must be out by 10am for another group to check in)

Price: Each room $78 per night ($312 for the 4 nights). If you share the room, you split the price. These rooms have a private bath with 2 double beds. There are smaller rooms with 2 twin beds and shared hall bath, but they are the same price this year.

Meals: Last year we prepared our own meals, but the kitchen is very small and we (hopefully) will have more people this year. We opted to snack and/or have light breakfasts and lunch, then have them prepare dinners for us this year. Dinner will be $11/day, so an additional $44. If we only have 6 they may not provide dinner, but we could manage cooking for 6 I'm sure.

Total cost will be $356 ($312 if we don't do meals) if you have an unshared private room.

Deposit will be $50 and balance when we check in. I will pay Holston, so please make your checks payable to me. If you would like more information or need my mailing address, please send me a message.

I am looking forward to seeing everyone again, and possible seeing new faces. We still have room for more.

Beverly

I have my tickets. Since we will have one of the best paper-piecing teachers in the world coming, I will bring a PP project this year. But, the stop at Mary Jo's might add to that. You know how it is.

So who all has signed up? I can't wait!

I have my ticket also - but I am flying into Raleigh-Durham airport this time. Teresa is picking me up.

So far we have Linda, Jackie, Jennifer, Teresa, Sue, and me. Tim will be there Wed night but is going hiking for a couple of nights. Any new people interested?

Sounds terrific. Wish I could come but not this year. Hoping for next year.

    To the top.

Linda, I have a HUGE paper piecing project to bring as well. Also bringing 4-5 other projects, just to be covered.

Jennifer, are you coming Wed or Thurs?

I'm still hoping to come in late on Wednesday. Probably leaving here late afternoon...about a 6 hour drive.

We still have room if anyone is interested.

I have heard from Lisa at Holston. They have cancelled our dinners since we are so few. I don't think we will have any trouble cooking for 6. The price will now be $312 per room (if you share the room, you split the price), plus meals. We can work out details for meals later. Tim and I will be riding Wed morning, so I won't be there till after lunch. Lisa said the building will be open for arrivals and I can pay when I get there. I'll send her a list of things we will need, so if you have any special requests just let me know. And we still have room if anyone is interested.

    I'm getting excited!

Do you think you could arrange for a massage therapist??? Just askin ...

I am a Brand New Grandmother......just days.....and will have some Grandmotherly new duties in October. I wasn't sure when my help would be needed, so I'm out this year. Weddings, and now a new Baby Boy, are wonderful reasons, but I miss going and seeing you all. Have a Great Retreat.

I will see you all in 2017!

Congrats!!! Our first is due in December ... looking forward to that!

    Congratulations to the new grannies!

    Theresa

Don't know about the massage therapist, but can arrange for hammocks.

Congrats to the new grandmas. You are in for a great time, we have found grands are wonderful as advertised.

Me too, Jacky. And with only 6 coming, that leaves me about 12 rooms to choose from! It's going to be hard!

I'll send out an e-mail about meals. Tim said he will grill up a bunch of burgers Wed night and we can warm them up for lunch. Whomever gets there first is responsible for setting up tables, they should be in the closet. I'll be there as early as I can.

    Thanks Jackie!

I would be happy to cook up a bunch of BBQ and bring that...It'd make for an easy lunch or dinner.

    That would be great.

I can also bring chicken salad and other sandwich fixings to have for lunches.

    Just wondering!

Life gets in the way and folks arent able to make the retreat. I Would think this is the smallest number of retreatants but what was the largest group? Anyone remember?

    Theresa

Yes, this is the smallest. The first year (10 years ago!) was 7 maybe.

I think there were 5 the second year, would have to check the pictures. One year I think we had 17 plus 3 hubbies. I remember we filled 4 tables at meals with 6-7 at each table (once again I need to check the pictures).

Chicken salad would be good, too.

Seems we might have enough offerings for lunch, so what if I plan to make an easy soup for dinner one night? Vegetable Burger or Taco soup would be the easiest/less time consuming soups to make. Any nay sayers? I'll be bringing homemade bread also.

I will have to shop, Teresa, since it will be difficult to pack food items in my suitcase! I will be happy to do whatever - could buy cereal, bagels, cream cheese, fruit, etc. for breakfast items.

The soup sounds good Teresa. Either one of them.

    I vote taco.

Are we doing left right center? If so, what charms or fat quarters should we bring?

Yup, we will play again, probably charms again, maybe strips. I'll start a thread soon for ideas.

Are we doing a gift for everyone or a larger item exchange with one other this year??

I vote one gift item exchange.

I am good with either on the gift exchange.

24 hours and the fun begins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Soooo jealous!

Enjoy, work hard but play harder!

    Theresa

    The weather is beautiful!

Sending happy thoughts to all at the retreat. I'll think of you as I sit sipping some wine, eating snacks in my SiL's cabin located on a tall bluff overlooking the Mississippi River this weekend.

Missing the retreat already... my first miss in a number of years. Bev, my first year was the year of 17 plus 3 hubbies....was that 2012?

    V.

Yes, it was 2012. We miss you and Kate and hope yall can come next year.

I've only been twice.....2008 (DH was with me) and 2012 which was the big one.
