Bachelor, right? You're having a hard time because the home that you describe is not suited to the area of the country that you live in. Architecture form follows function and location. It's not makeup that is applied to a universal box.

Go back to the architects that you already talked to and ask them to show you why the home forms that they suggested are more suited to your surroundings than a landed from Mars look. You want a Colorado mountain home? Buy a lot in Colorado and build one!

This is also often controlled in an area so you need to find out the rules (stupid I know ) before going any further. I find all the rules a pain but in most places they want cookie cutter homes and heaven forbid if you want to unique. Maybe you can find a happy medium by doing the interior more to what you like and just becare thoughtful with the exterior I think something like this interior might be a good mix and I don’t see why a stone BBQ area would be bad . Just be aware if resale is in your future this could be hard sell if you go too mountain home.
