yes, match the bed frame not the bedding...or something darker for the base as the table is light, and nothing too tall or bulky as they will swallow the tables

The faux wicker one is 29" tall with a 14" diameter shade. The Bahama one is 31.5" tall with 16" diameter shade.

Yep, the Bahama lamps should work, but the other one is fine too. There's nothing like getting them in the house to see them up close and personal.

Thanks Carolyn. I value your opinion a great deal. You have helped me avoid design disaster on many occasions. Maybe I should order the other ones too, as I do need lamps for the Tommy Bahama console... At $49 each, it is probably worth the gamble.

Bahama lamps arrived. I like them much better than the blue. Thanks for the guidance to match the bed frame, not the bedding! Now just need to figure out art work and a few accessories. I like the serenity of the cloud painting, but not with the white frame. Would it work in here if it had a frame that coordinated better with the bed?

The artwork definitely needs reframing. It needs some mats around it which will make it larger, and will also separate the art from the frame. I've never felt compelled to match a frame to a headboard, but that would certainly look better than the white frame. Another direction would be to place it as part of a grouping of art pieces. It's really a bit small to make it on its own. If it were flanked by a couple of darker baskets or trays or whatever you have handy to hang on the wall, it might look okay as it is. What can you find in your closets?

Nothing appropriate hiding in my closets. I tried it on the smaller wall at the foot of the bed, but I think I need a vertical piece on this wall... Here is a better image of the John Constable cloud painting. I'd like to use it in here if possible. Perhaps a cream or pale gold wide mat with a bronze frame?

I don't know why I'm having such a hard time with this room. Perhaps because what is inside is fighting with the view outside of the pool and casita.

My problem is the wall color is just to plain. Maybe if you painted the wall behind the headboard a more vivid color it would solve many problems. The night stands (and I apologize for not weighing in on this sooner, and I realize we need to work with them at this point) but they just aren't in the same context as the bed. The bed looks "tropical" (outside in) and the night stands look (French and lovely) So, the trick is to bring these things together. What about a nice sky blue on that wall? More aqua than baby blue? Then add some more tropical type colors in pillows or different bedding. Everything is "pale". Just my 2 cents - feel free to ignore me! lol

No that is a common misconception. In a guest room, you have more options. You could even do a deep color like an indigo blue (dark blue jeans!) color. Then the bed and the night stands would stand out equally. I just used that night stand in another bedroom, and it is really beautiful. So, this just needs tweaking to get it feeling right. Not to worry! I think I have a photo I can post that might help you visualize this look. Be back shortly.

This is a small room, but look how pretty it is and distinctive. Notice the color of the wood door, which is similar to your wood look, the light colored bedding the only difference is your night stands would look even better because they would "standout" against the dark walls. I think this might also tie in better with your outside looks you mentioned. Do you see what I mean. Plus for guests, a dark color is very relaxing and calming!!

Not modern at all. Your items will determine the "style" which is kind of eclectic to my eye. Sometimes you just have to think a bit out of your comfort zone. But, of course up to you. Maybe you could go get some drapes that are a indigo blue and pin them to the walls behind your night stands and see how it looks. You can always return the drapes. I think you need the "first hand" look to take the plunge! Maybe just the one back wall not the whole room. But I would do the whole room. Make it a "cozy retreat" look. Not like you are going to be there all the time, it is just a "resting" zone.

Something like this and see what you think. Might even work for your windows! Maybe that would do the trick and these are black out too so guests won't have sun creeping in waking them, or outside lights?

When I frame pictures, I usually choose 2 mats, one with a deeper color from the artwork and one with a neutral or white from the artwork. I then use 1/4" of the stronger color next to the artwork and perhaps a 3" wide, or more, of the neutral/white color that goes between the 1/4" mat and the frame. I choose a frame that looks good with the art. I've never matched a frame to the bed.

I personally like painting the bed wall a color and it's usually a fairly bold color. In your case it could be a blue from the bedding which seems to have stronger blues than the artwork. You mentioned getting a larger, vertical piece to go on the wall by the bed. Doing so would give you the opportunity to repeat the stronger blue from the bedding which might be the paint color for the bed wall.

My hesitancy to paint an accent wall is that all walls in the house are bone white, with the exception of the family room and hallway upstairs, which is a sage green. I like the neutral backdrop that allows me to switch things up with decor. Perhaps what is throwing me off is the blue bedding... I tried switching it out with a more neutral duvet that I think calms things down for me in here. I also have an abstract in gold, cream and bronze that seems to work? The head of the bed needs some tweaking with accent pillows, but this combo seems to work much better. There is an en suite bathroom that is very neutral as well.

I appreciate the suggestions for an accent wall, and find the photo of the deep blue London bedroom very pretty. I'm just afraid that if I start painting accent walls different colors in rooms, it will feel very chaotic to me.

Here is a photo of the gold and cream bedding with the abstract, as well as the attached bathroom. The painting is just propped up on a stool for a visual. I would hang it higher than this. Thoughts on this???

I also posted a photo of the blue bedding in a bedroom that is on the opposite side of the house. The lighting is different and the blue bedding seems to work better in there?

The gold and cream bedding seems to work very well. I think you've found a winner! I don't care for the art in the bathroom which looks totally unrelated.

The somewhat geometric look of the abstract art piece works nicely with the geometric pattern of the bedding. I like them together.

Carolyn - it is the color and "feeling" I get from the art that I wonder about. Art is personal, so up to your deborahjarman! You can best tell, because colors are very inaccurate on monitors! But the room is really coming along very well. Your patience is paying off!

Thank you Carolyn and Flo. I haven't gotten to the bathroom other than linens. The "art" in there is just propped up until I figured out the bedroom. I'm onto the bathroom once I get the bedroom finished. If the abstract is on that large wall (which I like), do I need anything on the wall at the foot of the bed? It is the corner wall to the left of the bathroom door that I posted a photo of on Monday with the cloud painting hung there. I do have two small Picasso woodcuts in gold frames that could be stacked there, or perhaps used in the bathroom. I was planning on hanging them at the foot of the soaking tub in the master, but not sure they work in there.

Flo, The colors in the abstract and the bedding go very well together in person. I agree monitors can skew colors. The "feeling" of the piece is not very soothing, but I like that it brings a bit of drama. I think I'll use it for now. Can always replace it down the road if I find something that I love!

I've always been one to go slow and put a house together over time with finds that I absolutely love. We just moved into a much larger house that had too much "empty" to get away with this philosophy, so I've had to move at a much quicker pace than I'm comfortable. My husband wants it "done" yesterday, so trying to be patient so I like the outcome, but also keep moving to silence my roomie!

A vertical or round piece would work nicely on the wall to the left of the doorway at the foot of the bed.

What about an oval gold leaf framed mirror for that wall? 24" high x 20" wide. It would reflect the sky and trees outside when entering the room. Also mimics the circular pattern in the duvet.

Don't attempt to match this pseudo-style. Use absolutely simple tables/chests with tall lamps. Plain mirrored chests might work.

Case in point!

Take the blinds to the ceiling. Add large art.

Pick colour second from left, and balance it with white.

Your furniture doesn't like the yellow walls. A soft white, an almost-not-there peach, or Farrow and Ball's CLUNCH would work better.

The inside/outside contrast is irrelevant (especially in a covenanted neighbourhood. Just be consistent on the interior.

Sectionals are dictatorial, and don't allow for arrangement flexibility.
