I haven't decided what to border and bind this with yet, but I couldn't wait to show you this quilt top. I think it is such a beautiful pattern. It's Winter Snow from Sara Nephew's Not Your Grandmother's Log Cabin. I made the mistake of not reading the instructions all the way through and cut all 840 logs wrong. I was devastated, but I figured a way to recut them and use them. The individual blocks are an inch smaller than they should be and the little black triangle at the center of each section is smaller than it should be, but I think it turned out great anyway. It was made totally from scraps from other quilts I have made. It's actually bluer than this photo shows. This will be a gift for my stepdaughter.

Thank you all so much. I think I found the perfect border fabric. It's a small print (just little short dashes) in teal and blue. It picks up the dominant blue color feel of the quilt. I'm going to do a three-piece mitered border, first a 2" blue, then a 1" taupe/grey, then a 4" blue with blue binding. I found some backing fabric at Thousand of Bolts that I hope will look good. We'll see.

Oooo, that's lovely!! I think I'm happier with a quilt when I've had to overcome difficulties. It just seems more substantial then.

Lois, that is absolutley the most beautiful "mistake" I have ever seen! Lucky that you were able to salvage your pieces! How big are the blocks? If for some reason your stepdaughter doesn't like it, I can send you my address in Colorado. :)

Oh my goodness!!! What a special quilt this is. I think with the little black triangle being smaller, the snowflakes look lacier. Gorgeous!!

Sue, it's hard to say what a block is. The sections of the hexagons are sewn in a vertical strip. As it stands (or lays, as the case may be), the quilt is 56 by 64. The logs finish at 1". The hexagons are 13" (side to side) by about 15.75" (point to point).

That looks so difficult. I'm so glad you were able to salvage the pieces and complete. You would never know it wasn't exactly as it should have been. Beautiful.
