Those floors have got to go if you want "relaxing".

I'm sure you can instal LVT over it.

Do something with minimal movement so it does not compete with the fireplace.

Add some valences over the windows to give the appearance of them being the same height on top.

I like the wood siding. adds a natural element as well as texture which you want in a relaxing setting- but- the brick adds texture too and thats probably why you don't like it. I would drywall in the brick and then drywall in the area around the FP from floor to ceiling to eliminate that.

Make the Fireplace a focal point! If you can't fight it, then love it.

It will become a conversation piece instead of an eye sore.

I agree the floor is the bad part of the room. Love the knotty pine!

If the fireplace doesn't work, get rid of it.

I'm not keen on the knotty pine. Paint it the same color as the brick. If the fireplace is useful to you and it's attractive, use it. Regarding the floor, depends on what your budget is. If you can get rid of it, great. If not, see if you can either put a room sized carpet over it or if it's level and in good condition you can put wood floors on top? (not sure if that can be done here) Get some window treatments. Switch off ceiling light in favor of a table lamp or wall sconce in each corner at chest height.

OMG here I thought I would get one comment "territory down and start over" but I got 4 great ones instead Thank you soon much! So:
1. we are going with carpet, but don't know what color??
2. WE love the idea of the valances, so we will do that.
3. The balanced beige on the pine looks a bit gray, but the lighter color up from it looks muddy. We will give the brick color a try and resend pics when done.
?Does anyone think that ceiling, or crisp white would be a disaster on the pine and/or ceiling with the beige brick as an accent wall?
