Help identify KBG grass issue

Iowa zone 5a, KBG sod that is a year old. It gets irrigated when looking stressed, maybe every 4-5 days. The grass was looking great and then all of a sudden it started to lay down in spots and mainly about a foot away from the house. The only insects I have seen are lots of crickets and some spiders up next to the house.

Merit was applied earlier this summer and I am not able to find any grubs in these spots. Milorganite was applied August 15th other wise just been mowing 3-3.5". I took a blower to the grass and it really fluffed up and seemed thin where the issue is happening.

Here is an area that I raked to show the issue.

This is a close up of the same area.

I'm having trouble understanding what the issue is. You mentioned the grass lying down, but are also showing a spot that looks dead or maybe squirrel damage. I mow my KBG at 4" and it took into the third season for it to get strong enough to stand straight up at that length. So if is is just looking lazy here and there it may be nothing. If you are talking dead spots then that's different. Do you have a photo of the whole area?

DR Funky - Are you sure?

danielj - Thanks for the comments. I am wondering if this is a weed, disease, or something else. It seems like it lays over and is dead more towards the turf and some of the grass just pulls right up. Does that happen when it just gets too long like you mention?

The spots I am concerned with were 4" or more just because of the location with some shade for part of the days. I was mowing this summer at 3.5" but the sod just turned 1 year. Maybe I should have been mowing lower.

What's the best way to deal with it? Rake it then just mow normal? I can try to take a picture tomorrow. There are no brown spots in this area.

Wors -Its Creeping Bent grass from what I can see , those hairy brown tops intertwined on the ends of the stolons is the clue. KBG turf is rhizomous. Grab a bunch and bring it to your local aggie station or maybe a lesco/ deere house. Don't let that sit it spreads fast.

May be rough stalk bluegrass , but Rough goes dead brown in summer heat and likes and WET soil and prefers shade , hence it grows well on the margins say the 2 cut rough on fairways.. your sods is sporting fun sun and 4/5 day drinks.. Its possible ,,,but have someone check it out , if its CB get Tenacity it works a charm.. Best R DR Funky
