When does Christmas start in your house?

I know, I know, it's September and Christmas isn't exactly around the corner. But some will have already started to prepare this year's festivities, so it's not too soon to ask.

So, I'm curious to know. At what point do you start thinking about Christmas each year?

Planning begins as soon as the kids are back at school

November 1st is my first day of planning

I don't touch Christmas until December

We always have a real tree, so it goes up just about a week or ten days before 'the day'. About the beginning of December I make my own wreath for the door with bits from the garden. I really enjoy that. I pick a lovely bright crisp day and go around the garden with trug and secateurs. Then I sit on a garden bench with a mug of mulled wine, and Christmas music playing on the radio and make the wreath - it's my favourite part of the whole season.

Christmas Eve if I can be bothered. When I was a kid Xmas didn't start in August as it seems to now.

to spread the cost (and make xmas less stressful) I start present buying in September, wrap it - tag it - bag it - bung it in the loft..!!

My old Mum used to say don't put the decorations up until 12 days before Christmas, but with kids We tried to get them up by the 1st :-)

We decorate on 1/12, husband's birthday, because he is like Buddy the Elf when it comes to Christmas. I buy presents all year long, whenever I see something I think will be loved by a person on my list.

Definitely starts December 1st - it makes it more worthwhile then with trees and decorations. Although I will buy presents throughout the year if I see something special....

As I live in a different country to my family planning for flights etc. starts now, it is a bit like herding cats!

When my son was young I started about now. I had to buy my presents and all of his other relatives gifts for him to save on duplications. Now he's grown up its not so frantic as he's happy with fewer presents and some cash. I love the thought of not having to bother with anything, especially cooking the main meal, but in reality, I'd probably miss it.

I used to find Christmas the absolute most stressful time of the whole year with family commitments and working till the last minute. Since close family have died I now am not obliged to do anything except what I'm comfortable with. It took a couple of years to even find out, for myself, how I wanted to celebrate Christmas, or not. The relief of all the pressure is now my best present ever.

I like making things so I have to start early. I'm also bad at sending Christmas cards but love sending them so need extra time to get it as right as I'm likely to get it! I've had reports that some people get two cards and some have wishes for the wrong year etc. etc. One day I'll get it right!

We traditionally celebrate Christmas beginning with Advent (4th Sunday before Christmas in the Anglican faith), and run straight through the 12th Night, or Epiphany. This also marks the transition to Carnival or Mardi Gras Season for us in the coastal Southern US.

I try and keep it strictly to December - starting too early means you'll likely want to end it early too, and drawing it out for as long as possible in January at least gives me the illusion there's still something to look forward to...what a month!
