Dining light help! Pictures?

last modified: 10 years ago

Can everyone share pictures of their dining room light fixtures please? I am in definite need of some inspiration pictures!

I want to replace my dining room light fixture and I tend to really like Tiffany style lights. How would that look in this room?

Also, does anyone have a single Tiffany style light in their dining room they could share a picture of? I went to a lighting store yesterday and snapped a couple of pictures of some things I liked. So kind of along these lines I was thinking:

If this won't look right, any suggestions on what might?

Your dining room is what I would call transitional with a bit of an MCM vibe. I'm not sure that a traditional Tiffany would be the best choice, since it's such a style departure from what you've got going on in the space. It could possibly read eclectic - or it could look like a fusty fixture in an otherwise fresh room. Would you consider a Dale Tiffany fixture along these lines? I think this would look awesome if the size is large enough (it might be a little small).

Or ... something along these lines? Think clean lines. :-)

Previous owners of our new place had a Tiffany light in their dining area:)

My husband is a fan, I'm much less so, so I've changed it.

But I must say-it did read incredibly cozy over there.

So we didn't get rid of the light..we saved it, and we might reuse it in other space.

More than that..while struggling with my husband's fascination with Tiffany, I caught myself warming up to it...:) I actually chose all by myself Tiffany lights for the secondary bath, just in a very modest, more graphic pattern..something like IdaClaire shows but even simpler than that.

(I love florals by the way..but this space didn't support it, thus my choice of a very simple pattern. Which might be good because I really have so many florals I'd be embarrassed for myself, had they not make me that happy))

Now to the point lol-I think your room is a great example of a room where Tiffany light will work. It's smaller, with not-so-high ceiling(much alike our new dining), and the coziness of Tiffany will be right spot-on. I'd pay attention to the shape, pattern, and colors though.

Our light was turned downwards. I mean the shade. I'll try to find the picture to illustrate..

It's not a Tiffany, but ohhhhhh this would be pretty in your room! Just a little bit o'bling.

But I think-as long as you keep to the same colors that are in your rug-you can get away with a floral.

If you want to go this direction of course.

The room reads pretty transitional, "neutral" to me right now. You can keep to it-or you can start tweaking it towards being more eclectic. Which means-you'll probably need to add other things, besides the light.

It can be as simple as adding a plant in a patterned pot..art...a vase on the table..

thank you! The room is pretty bare bones right now, eventually I'd like to add something to wall, either family pictures or artwork, and come curtains for color/texture.

I see the point about something a little less ornate/ flowery, and more simple lines. maybe one of these?

I like the last one pictured, Theresa. The fixtures at the top of the page have a decidedly mission/craftsman look and I don't really see that style in your room. The one on the bottom is very nice in that it provides the Tiffany look you're after, but the shape makes it fresher than a scalloped fixture. It's ornate, but not fussy-ornate.

My vote is for the second one too.

Would be interesting to see it not lighted..To see the colors better.

It is pretty light, for sure.

ooh the photoshop mock ups really help! I love the second one, in fact, I have a smaller version in my entryway! Unfortunately it's size is way too huge for my space and it doesn't come any smaller :(

would you please be able to do a mockup with the last one I posted? Thank you! :)

Not sure if the scale is quite right, but you can get the idea. :-)

    The dog is so cute:)

I think..I need to look at the pics some more, because I got really distracted looking at the dog:)..I think I do like the last one the best....

I love the more modern one with your furniture. I don't know if it's an optical illusion, but they all look off center from the table and it seems to lessen that effect because there is no obvious center point on it.

If the table really is offset from the light, is it possible to turn the table so it runs parallel to the buffet and is centered under the light? Or maybe remove the 2 end chairs and place them against the wall except when you need to use them (assuming you don't use all 6 every day)?

And I agree about that adorable pooch!

I like the 4th one. It fits the best with the simple lines of your furniture but still picks up the colors in your rug. Those puppies need to get in every pic, don't they?

would it work to turn the table so you can center the light?

Of the pics robin did for you, I like the 2nd and the 4th best.

You have a lovely room, have selected a colorful rug, contemporary furnishings and now you want to change directions and use a retro Tiffany type hanging chandelier. It doesn't fit the room at all.

I would recommend you select a very colorful piece of art for the back wall, some colorful buffet lamps & a simple chandelier to focus attention on the items of color in your room. BTW, the table needs to be centered under the electrical outlet in the ceiling.

Here are some art pieces that remind me of Tiffany like items.

I'm not seeing a Tiffany style lamp in here with your furniture I'm afraid! These are reverse painted on glass fixtures( one of a kind). I realize they are very expensive and am not suggesting you purchase something like this but they have the color you crave in a more contemporary look. Maybe you should look for something in art as mentioned above and not in the fixture.

While I think the mock ups Beverly did are stunning, I think the quest is for less contemporary. I do think the last one Teresa posted which Robin did on Wed at 10 :40 am and also the 2nd one ( like pickyshopper suggested) are my favorites.

Would a Tiffany shade give off much light? That would be my main concern.

It's hard to hang a fake Tiffany chandelier with anything behind it successfully.

Indeed Beverly! This is a mismatch if ever I saw one!

Have you seen other rooms in the house? Do you know Theresa's general preferences?

    Because I'm kinda following.

This room is easy to tweak and take a bit different direction. At this point. And Tiffany will be okay, if it will be considered, shape wise and color wise.

The mock up is nice, but it's for some lady XYZ. The OP happens to like other lights. As far as I understood.

Light should go with the room of course-but if you're in love with the light, you can make room to go with it too. Especially if it's a neutral transitional room. Which it is.

Tiffany shade will give off pleasant ambient light. Which is usually desirable at dinner time.

Omg...if you want attention for a dilemma, just add this adorable dog...lol
  • 10 years ago

just for fun, this is what the dining room looked like when we looked at the house.

OMG. See, people can look right past decor and find a house they love!

Night and day!!! I do like that old round table tho :-)

What a wonderful improvement! It's now light and fresh and current. I hope you choose a lighting fixture without yellow or other colors. That seems to take away from the serene feeling.

Could you just post a pic of the table centered under the table, and then maybe we can get an idea for a light fixture. I can't look at anything but the table.

Came back by to see the updates and comment .t I hesitate when seeing the drum shape lights. While very fresh (and the one K9arlene posted is quite attractive and would look nice) my concern is that it might be one of those trends that ages out quicker than we would want. I do think they are attractive - even the blingy one posted earlier but I would hesitate on the longevity side. hope I didn't offend anyone.

Sheilaaus122, I agee with your analysis. I was suggesting something more updated with a nod to Tiffany since the OP seemed to really love the style and I don't think the traditional Tiffany works at all in the room. No offense taken on my part.

I like the round drum shaped with your dining table; perhaps you could find an oval one like that which is the 1st one that IdaClaire put a picture up.

I'm still voting for the one I found lol-no mock up was made with it

(BTW that bright yellow in the light that Theresa found, would never look as bright in the real room, as it looks on the mock up picture..the very well, professionally photographed image goes inside the dim picture of the room snapped in a totally different light..of course it will look like it takes away all the attention. Mock ups are useful and great, no doubt; but nor the room neither the pendant will look like it when you'll see it in each other's context in real room and in real light)

I could see the one that aprilneverends working.

I agree, I like that one too. If it helps...

II think a Tiffany style fixture can absolutely work in that room. I love mixing modern and vintage. I've come to realize that is my own personal style, and I have embraced it. I also think it's important to have things you love in your home, that makes you smile when you look at it, no matter what anyone else's opinion is.

I LOVE the one above that aprilneverends found.

This one I love, I have it saved to my wish list if I ever decide to splurge and replace my perfectly fine dining light with one I love.

I know this is over a year old but I think the thing making this room look so modern is those chairs. replace the chairs with something less modern and boom any tiffany you want would look at home (imo of course)
