No quilting for me. It's Fall Festival for our Brevard Botanical Garden. We (Master Gardener Group) are supporting with a huge plant sale all day Saturday. TONS of gorgeous plants! I wish you all were here to buy some!! Our goal is around $12K this year, I think. We have a Spring and Fall sale to help support the Gardens! (I did put in a few table runners and some placemats and mug rugs for the 'opportunity baskets', however!

I have started quilting a queen-sized quilt for a wedding Oct. 8. My friend had an idea for the quilt for her son, but she really isn't a quilter, so I am helping her. Not my style, but hopefully I have toned it down a little (some of her fabric choices were horrible!) Anyway, it is all pieced, sandwiched, and I am doing the stitch.

We have to leave for dinner theater tonight, then tomorrow our Lions Club is hosting a benefit pancake breakfast for our local fire dept., so we start at 7 am tomorrow. After that we have a football game. Sunday we are heading to Las Vegas for a few days of fun.

Sharon I love that block. What is its name? I plan to work on several things I have going on in the quilting room. I have one quilt on the frame and I am working on things I want to take to retreat. It is just a few weeks away!

No sewing for me again this weekend. I'm almost looking forward to winter, that seems to be the only time have to get in the sewing room! I should be careful what I wish for...:-)

My 4-patches are actually made up of 2" squares of 16-patches which end up at 6 1/2" but I did use grey and white for the HSTs. I have part of it sewn together, so maybe I'll be able to get the top together......not sure if I'll do borders.........unless I send it out for quilting.........hmmmmmm.

Nice layout Sharon. That would have worked for those patches I found last week.

I am in the middle of a jam making marathon so not much sewing going on but I must find my pattern for chemo caps. A friend is going through this and knows she will lose her hair. What a dreadful disease! I already gave her a quilt which she used for her first session this week.

Let's just say I hope to. This morning getting the house ready for a dinner tomorrow, picking tomatoes to freeze and I've got a block party this afternoon. I have the blocks made for another quilt and would like to sew them together tonight so I can give it to one of the ladies tomorrow to finish with the other one. The African ministry leader is coming for lunch with my class tomorrow and we'll get to hear all about the children's home. I understand it is overflowing and they are actually renting apartments for the older children. Sometimes both parents are dead, sometimes the mom is still there, but might have AIDS and one girl was kicked out of her home for becoming a Christian. So instead of saving the quilts for the second home we hope to build, I think I'll send back whatever I can get done for these kids in the apartments when he returns in October.

I finished the batik pinwheel quilt yesterday and got it in the Etsy shop. I plan to get another I spy in the frame tomorrow. If I'm lucky I can get some quilting done on it, too.

Ladies, your quilts are all lovely.

I hope to get started on the binding for my Antique Star quilt. I got it back from the longarmer on Thursday, and it's gorgeous. The recipient's birthday is 9/29, so I hope to get it finished by then. Because it's so special, I'm sewing the binding by hand, which I hate to do and don't do often.

My daughter and I drove about two hours south to a charming, historic town in southern Minnesota, Lanesboro. We saw a play, had dinner, shopped local artists and artisans, and biked 8 miles. I hadn't been on a bike in about 15 years, so we took three-wheel recumbent bikes. The trail was along a river on an old railroad bed, and the scenery was fantastic.

All of your activities sound so fun and productive! Yesterday I went to the quilt show in Jacksonville. It was a week earlier than usual, so I almost missed it! But it worked out well, as the memorial service for our friend and long-time church music director is next Saturday.

When I got home yesterday afternoon DH informed me he needed to go to Centra Care. He had red, itchy welts that had been bothering him for a week, and they were spreading. I told him on Monday he needed to see a doctor, but you know men! Anyway, as he suspected, he has shingles. :( We got a prescription filled for him and some Caladryl lotion, so hopefully he'll be feeling better soon. He had been using cortisone cream on it, and the doctor told him that's the WRONG thing to use - steroids can actually make shingles worse. So...if you have shingles, don't use cortisone!

I got the cutest kit for a turkey table runner at the show, so that's my project for this afternoon.

Donna, I hope you DH gets relief from the shingles soon. It looks so painful. DH and I got shingles shots last year at the urging of our doctor.

I didn't get the blocks sewn together, but I did cut out a new quilt last night for a friend who said she would piece it. Then I'll finish it. That's four quilts in various stages I hope to have finished by mid-October. Another friend said she would piece one also, so planning on cutting out another this week.

Thanks, Linda - the meds are working. He said it feels better today, and it looks better (less swelling). Once it clears up he will probably get the vaccination, too!
