Honestly, I am not crazy about the attached shelf. It is a bit too small and too traditional.

With the colorful vases on the floor and the great canvas, I would like to see your fireplace bare.

Love the vase. I would like to see it alone on the mantle....or centred a bit more. It would look better if presented directly underneath the painting.

Thanks for the suggestion. I did try to not have the mantle.. Builder didn't agree.. Wish I had taught hard. Tried to take it out later on.. Was gonna cost me a lot.. So thought will add some stuff. I am not able to pull off :(

No it's pullING off that you're doing. I like it very much as it seems the heart of the art's dancer [beauty and meaning is in the eye of the beholder]. Maybe not green but try those nestled next to the red, on the left.

Liked JudyG's point that it is small and even to remove. Not horrible, but could chalk paint it a stone color. Because your art is so modern I guess, and white also, ok. Enjoy playing with it. But if rest of the room has something much chunkier or more detailed, it might really look 'off' in comparison.

Whatever resin or bamboo it's of, just enjoy it. The shine of it echoes that of tv unit. But I wouldn't spread colors all over, all the time.... is it American Indian inspired - I am merely curious, that is all....

The mantle in the stone color looks great. I would use just the red vase, centered on the larger, stone colored mantle, especially after seeing your whole room. It helps move your eye to the fireplace. Group your green vases with the orange ones in your tray.

I could see Home Goods Global-look vase in aged stripes of the 2 spice colors in your art: its orange and red, etc....with a feel / texture of the stone. If you'd rather not have glossy.

OH gee, I think it is a keeper. The vase with the art brings life and personality to the room.... reconsider!

I agree with all the others. The mantle is so stark white and beveled. I would paint it to blend with stone or mount a chunkier block of natural wood. The vase is nice but needs a different resting place. It can cause stress to make something work unless you simply love it or spent a fortune on it. It is nice just not there.

I actually think it looks pretty great! So nice to see a different approach for a mantle..I would keep it where it is and add 1 or 2 large tropical leaves into it and only have it alone on the mantle very bold clean look...I love it!

You have a beautiful room...why in the world did they insist on A mantle? Maybe it is code or something. I think a softer white might work. Is the left wall lighter than the right wall? It looks like that on my iPad. Maybe a slight addition of the wall color paint to the white paint on mantle.

I wish there was no mantle.. Wall colors are same.. it's probably light.

Keep the vase but use it elsewhere. Its visual weight looks like it is going to break the mantel.

Disagree...alone on the mantle it is very interesting visually...kinda like a sculpture...a piece of art:)

I wasn't going to post cause it's back and forth - but as long as it's still going on, I also think it's ok, and that its height is no more than the art to its right. At Home Goods I've seen similar bamboo / lightweight items..... so I know it doesn't have to be pottery-weight...

Yes, that is what makes the vase work there, that it is visually overbearing;)

Just like the 3, I feel puzzled -- what did you mean Margo - it's heavy looking or not or what or ..........

I like the fact that it is over sized. You could get a light weight over sized piece, but who would know unless you picked it up. If you are worried about it falling then a light weight version would be better.

Oh Tribble! Trust you to give me a belly laugh. Love the red, loathe the mincey mantel. Clad it in barnwood grey reclaimed wood.

But in relation to the diminutive [are they small?] chairs, a slim mantel somehow fits.... [I had one over drywall / gas fp, and it wasn't at all good.]

Try another and we wouldn't mind..... ? we just visit.

Hey everdebz. Those chairs don't look so small to me--lots of bulk there. I think they look smaller because that mantel is so high on the stone. Much higher than normal and it makes the chairs look short.

Yeh ok.... another reason it'd be better to 'be there' -- I didn't say too small either, just shorter...
