Mid-Century Gal requests your help with her dining area.

I just remodeled my Cliff May Mid-Century house a few months ago. The house is 850 sq. feet with an open floor concept. This is the only place for the dining area, so space is limited. We don't entertain a lot, but not to where I would need a large table with 6 chairs. I have looked at extendable tables(rectangle and square), and also build your own-mid-century Banquette on both walls with a round table with 2 chairs on the other side. Since storage is a problem, I was thinking of cupboards under the banquette. Any other fun ideas anyone could suggest? The floors are dark grey bamboo, the kitchen cabinets are high gloss white with a dove grey ceaserstone countertop and stainless steel fixtures and drawer pulls.

Very simple, clean lines. Accent colors are grey, white, yellow, golds. Leaning towards the West Elm Jensen round glass table with walnut legs and 4 midcentury upholstered chairs in grey. Also looking for bar stools!

very nice! I love the idea of the banquette. very retro. You have to bring in a mid century color tho. I see you have some yellows/greens ? Maybe do the banquette seat in that green that is in those pillow? I could see one of those sputnik lights hanging over the area too.

Ditto to Beth's comment. Banquette would be perfect, space saving and offer the storage you mention. Wood table top would be a very nice element to add warmth in a natural material.

I love the banquette idea for your compact space. A single bench would be very versatile, and add a lot of storage for seasonal items.

Four or five chairs, two of which used elsewhere in the home as side or desk chairs, would give you ample seating.

I'd look for a rounded rectangle, with leavrs, like a vintage Moller table, in teak or rosewood, to add warmth and interest, and be era true... Upholstered chair seats in the banquette fabric would tie it all together.

I also like the elliptical Saarinen Beth showed, if have space, and know that you never need to squeeze more than seven for dinner.

Love your remodel. Kitchen is just great.

I think you should measure and mark with blue tape to see if it is possible.

Love your space! And if budget allows for a built in banquette with storage and upholstered backs that would be divine. I don't think you will need 4 chairs if you are doing the banquette. More like 2. And yes please measure all out so you can get a pendant light centered properly. If you can't add a pendant light at this point you could look at an Arc Lamp or sconces to get much needed light in that corner. Good luck!

Thanks so much! Still working on it and looking for some bar stools so we can have a place to eat while the other is in progress! Yes, definitely need to get some light in that corner as the nights are getting darker!

Thank you all for your great comments! This is my first time to ask for help on this site and I was filled with such gratitude with all your positive comments! The Saarinen table would work, but leaning towards a glass top with walnut legs. Found out that the West Elm banquette that I had pictured is all sold out. Looking for counter bar stools now just so we can at least be comfortable while we eat in our new kitchen!

The Fabrizzi tweed chair is indeed a handsome one! The walnut back would tie in with my credenza where the TV is. However, the chrome base is what I am trying to avoid as the sun gets very bright thru the clestory windows and the light would be beaming off and quite blinding at days end. I have stainless steel and brushed chrome throughout the kitchen and house. I put up a post about an hour ago that says, Bar stool blues and I list several types of chairs that I am considering. Would like your feedback on that if possible. Thanks so much!
