Help!! Large living room (coffee table)?

I am wondering if a coffe table would go with my living room and if so what kind would go with my oversized reclining furniture? Any suggestions would be appreciated:)

Well, I would normally say yes, and suggest something round, but when the recliners are up the coffee table would be too far away to serve a purpose. I would stick with side tables.

This one is on wheels. Beige maybe

We have a very similar room & reclining sofa like yours, we have (& use) a large rectangular coffee table. I've noticed when we have large parties that guests gather around it placing their plates, drinks, etc on it. We wouldn't be without it, it almost acts like a secondary dining table for us.

Jacknewportbeach would you mind sharing a picture of yours?

Yes, you need a coffee table and also side tables. Where do you put your wine?

I have thought about that arrangement but have a hard to visualize seeing my kitchen is open and facing that area.

Consider a framed art piece for over your fireplace, something to look at from the table. The mirror is reflecting the ceiling fan, not a good thing.

Is that a dog bed or a bean bag chair? I might find it another home and put the two white chairs on either side of the fireplace angled toward each other as a secondary seating area.

The bean bag is something my daughter just bought as her favorite come home from school spot. Actually everyone fights for the spot including the dog. It will have to stay for a year:) should I try chairs facing the counter?

Hmm not so sure that looks good. Looks really crowded around the fireplace.

I like your original way better than this last photo.

This was my living room last year. I think it's getting much better.....thanks to everyone's suggestions.

Can you post photos of your kitchen view? Is the space where the white chairs are supposed to be a dining room?

    Did you remove some walls?
Here is the rest of the floor. Appliances soon to be changed:)

No we did not remove any walls.

Would you consider making the area by the fireplace an eating area? Do you use all of the bar stools? They are very heavy for the space. Because your furniture is oversized it's a little difficult to offer any good suggestions. Do you like the tv where it is now?

We love the island and the stools. We rarely eat in the dining room, maybe a couple times a year. The living room is where we live every evening. Our two favorite areas after work and school with our 2 teenagers.

Yes I like the new tv spot. I just had an outlet put on the wall for it. It has been on the other two walls but needed a change.

A round coffee table is best!

ok here is what i would do,

shift the living room down to the FP side of the room, plus you can watch tv while you cook and entertain.

create and entry way at the stairwell front door side of the room.

get a larger rug, and a second rug to divide the spaces

also your barstools are too heavy for the space, you need something a bit less bulky and maybe gray or off white rather than brown.

The living room as is looks like all the furniture is "pushed" against walls. I think I know what you are going for but instead of looking like a comfy space its looks a bit squashed. I also agree about the kitchen stools being too big and the wrong color. Because you have open space it is quite notable that they don't quite fit. You have some great pieces. I love the wall of cabinets which I am assuming is your pantry.

Actually each of us in the family have a whole unit in the mudroom. Hats gloves caps in the bottom drawer. Shoes on the 2 shelves inside and jackets all hung up. Best thing I had built!!!!! The stools in the kitchen originally went with the white countertop I had and the cabinets were light brown. So as things are changing I am getting new things as I go. The living room was all carpet and is now wood. The mudroom is radiant heat floor so everything dries from these cold wet Vermont winters.

if you're reclining a lot you might want a coffee table on casters for easier moving around.

    Marie,

I would put the two white chairs with the table in between them as you have them, but facing the fireplace. You would see the backs of them from the dining area, but would still be able to look through them to see the fireplace. Can you post a picture of them like that? Also, you have a very nice home. I would recline the chairs in the family room and measure the size of the area that is left when they are reclined. Get a coffee table a little bit smaller than that area. I would also suggest getting one shaped round or oval. There is enough square shaped things in the room. And something lighter weight to soften the weight of the sofas.

There really is no dining area. I think that is the problem. Thea area in front of the fireplace is not part of the living room currently. If you don't want a kitchen table and chairs, how about a game table? Where do you eat all of your meals, in the dining room on the other side of the kitchen?
The island is a little cramped for dining IMHO.

Not the dining area but the kitchen island with bar chairs. Some coffee tables like this
