Too much dampness will just help it die. IMO, it isn't needed to wet the leaves -there is lots of moisture in it to start roots/plantlets to grow. I know that many ppl recommend spraying, my experience has been better without, to begin with. Once there are roots and/or plantlet and original leaf start withering away, that is when I start watering the soil - not the leaves.

The leaf needs to be taken off cleanly. Either carefully twist off or cut with sharp knife/blade. It isn't necessary to stick it into soil, but could be. Just laying them on tray/plate/top of the mix - either should work with most of them. Keep in bright spot, not in blazing sun. Not every leaf will grow, and some plants are little more 'finicky' than others. Some will root very fast, others will take a while.

OK thanks. Yea I lay mine on dry soil but then I started to notice that it had a very small amount of what seems to be wrinkling at the other end so I thought I'd better dampen the soil. I have one leaf with a small bud on the end but NO roots. I never wet the leaves even when I water the ones in pots I don't like to get the plant wet. It seems to be at a stand still with no recent changes as far as I can see. So I'll just leave it alone and let it do it's thing. I just hope it keeps on growing.
