A little background--my house was built in 1957. It is located in an area that used to be a marsh/swamp. We have had record rainfall this year and my sump pump is running every few hours. My basement has been extra smelly this summer. I am in Minnesota.

The main issue I have with my basement is the former well room. It is located directly under my front entrance and now houses my water main shut off. It is also a stinky nasty mess.

The room of dread. Notice the nasty, wet cardboard? like material that is attached to the underside of my concrete entrance? The wall is also open to what I believe is bare earth. Yuck. The glass block window in my front steps is also broken.

The room is always damp and stinky. We are running a duhumdifier the main basement area and we plan on replacing the beaver dam drainage system we have with one that is beneath the cement. We were told that the drainage system would be expanded to include this room.

What would you do to fix this nasty room?
