Those windows are beautiful. I'd get rid of the shutters. Once you put up curtains you might feel better about the windows.

No matter what you do you are still going to have windows with "lines". Live with it until you can replace the windows. I like contemporary architecture but the arched windows are fighting with the grids. Bad design.

Are those real mullions or is the grid something that can be removed? I feel like the top three windows would look better without them.

Chiflipper, when you say grids, are you referring to the muntins? I don't mind the muntins, but what bothers me is the offset placement of the windows themselves - - they don't line up!

shirlpp, I never even considered draperies for that wall. can't picture a way to hang them that would appeal to me. Can you describe what you had in mind?

HI -- These windows always seem to be great until you have them and find out how difficult they are to deal with . Are you wanting to get rid of the grids and have you looked to see if they can be re-moved ?? Having paneling is just going to look worse . Have the trim and the wall the same color . Yes get rid of the shutters . You could have roman shades made for the upper windows or look at Wallpaperforwindows.com . Then drapes for the lower windows with same roman shades under . Get a window covering company in to give you a quote . Hunterdouglas.com

Your room is empty right now. Here are some eye-diverting solutions that don't require messing with the fireplace and windows:

--Place two well-proportioned high-backed upholstered chairs flanking the fireplace, one with a foot rest.

--Place a dramatic chaise that will project into the room and a high-backed chair on the other side of the fireplace.

--Add dramatic corner lighting as in the second photo.

--Add a dramatic patterned rug that will pull the eye forward.

--If you can live without a ceiling fan, replace it with an incredible pendant.

Live with this for now until after your furnish your room. Don't think about drapes. Not crazy about the shutters but if you need them for privacy, then leave them be and pull them aside during the day.

I was thinking of curtains for the side windows, not for the middle window.

They would not have to be pulled back like this one. You could put your rods straight across as opposed to an angle - as it is below.

This is another example, but the rod would cut into your middle window.

What did you ever do with your windows? I ask because I have similar windows. I think yours are nicer than mine. I don't need to worry about drapery or anything though.

Life4real, I plan to add wainscot paneling only between the fireplace mantel and the window above it (NOT adding anything to the walls or window trim for the left and right sides). The wainscot will have three raised panels, with the center section wider than the other two. It will be painted Sherwin Williams Pure White, the same as the rest of the trim. The wall will be Sherwin Williams Repose Gray. I am also replacing the plantation shutters with single panel shutters with a wider vane to maximize the view.

What ever happened with this project? Could you share your final result?
