I wouldn't do a sectional for that room. It closes it off too much. A couch and two chairs should be fine.

by updating kitchen what do you mean? a complete redo, painting cabinets, etc. I would decide on what you're doing with kitchen first and flow from there

The doors are a very lovely feature, if privacy allows, I'd ditch the curtain a rod.

I can't see detail on the cabinets but they look lovely in the picture. That said, you want to go white, which I would recommend only if you are re-using what you have. I would not recommend new cabinetry in white. (White cabinets is a trend that constantly goes in and out of style. High end homeowners don't mind, because the remodel at whim. However, for the average homeowner, cabinets are needed to last several several years. Stained wood has never gone out of style, though there is some fluctuation in stain color.)

If you want to paint the trim, I don't think you should paint it all white. It's interesting so why not a different color?

But I think you should choose a kitchen model that goes better w the overall style of your house. I'd say cream colored cabinets and not stark white would work better. Jmo. I just think your house has a rustic/farmhouse feel, but to me the kitchen you chose does not follow that.

I would remove the half wall dividing the rooms to open it up.

Whitewashing red brick can sometimes come out pink. I'd check with your local home improvement store to find out if an opaque stain might not be a better idea. I'd consider pulling the mantle and replacing it with a long, chunky mantle that goes wall to wall. Mount it so the bottom is 12" above your firebox. I also agree that a sofa and two chairs is a better choice for your room.

3-seater sofa and 2 arm chairs for sure. You may want to consider apartment or loft sized pieces for your small space. Wall mount TV left of the sliders on an articulated arm to adjust for viewing. That will gain you some floor space and open up the visual. Art above a long wall-to-wall mantel. A mirror reflects either the ceiling or your kitchen (not a desirable object you want to double.) If it were my FP I'd paint it white, black or charcoal.

Does the room feel much brighter already?? If so, no need to paint the brick. You like traditional, and whitewashed brick isn't so much traditional but more farmhouse IMO

Ok, painted molding and walls, got a new couch. In the process of working on the fireplace. Whitewashed it and didn't like it with grey grout. Painted grout and sanded a few bricks. Any comments or suggestions...please be nice! Also, what color throws and pillow should I get?
