Try moving the plant to the stone wall where it notches back and replace the small table lamp w a larger scale floor lamp. Proportionately the lamp is way too delicate for the room. The plant may want to be scaled larger as well. A larger ficus or fiddle leaf fig for scale might be better. The art is a tad high over the sofa and lastly I'd bring in just a dash of color from your art w a pillow or two.

Also, have you tried the 2 lounge chairs opposite the sofa with the bench by the windows? The coffee table will work better for all as now it's way too far from the sofa. I think if you can try this arrangement you will be pleasantly surprised as it will also have a better indoor/outdoor connection.

COLOR. You have a beautiful, calm space so don't get crazy. But consider brining some color in.

The bench doesn't fit. It's too tall, looks extremely uncomfortable and I doubt that anyone would want to sit there for very long.

I love neutrals so don't always agree that bringing in a red, yellow or blue colours to bring a space to life. I do think it's missing greenery. Find a nice plant to add that colour without changing your neutral colour scheme.

Wondering if the room would function better with sofa in front of windows and then a chair on each end. Like this. Leave end tables to work with sofa.

Regarding moving the furniture around, I already did and this is the best way they work, but thanks anyway. The bench might look uncomfortable but it's not... I promise you! :) Thanks again!

Put your 2 chairs where the bench is and put the bench in front of the windows. Anyone sitting in your room would love to look out that beautiful window!

You are missing color and texture. I partially agree with leelee. Try switching the location of the chairs with the bench and only leave about 18 inches between the coffee table and the sofa and chairs.

I like the chairs in front of the window because they don't completely block the view. Furthermore, during the night we incorporate the outdoor space to the living room. We are able to separate the chairs a little bit and create a "passage" to the outdoor space. But, thanks anyway.

Agree with edwards' suggestions. Barbara's comment re texture was exactly what my thoughts were. More of things with texture similar to your nice rug (baskets, metal art ...?). Nice room & furniture.

Just took a re-look. Huh- I wonder if you could bring that "soft, nature" color inside just by changing out the lamp shades. I'm a tone-on-tone-on tone girl, and I love this room. But I think that might be a really interesting way to bring a "pop" of color", without ruining the calm... Totally understand the chairs placement, after your explanation.

Do you have pets/children that will make this next suggestion impractical? If so- blow it off! If not?

Consider a collection of floor pillows, usually stacked behind the bench. Very practical, as overflow guests can grab them, sit near the table and eat, drink and converse.

Really, it depends on how you use this space. I love it.

Art and more color in accessories

The bench just doesn't work in the room. The photo Leelee posted would look so much better. The coffee table is floating in no mans land, and needs to be in reach of the seating. Would recommend larger art work and large greenery (in front of divider).

@902juanita I agree with you about changing the lamp shades (like the colors, not the shapes below).. will try doing that. Also, will try the floor pillows.. Love the idea! I bet Duke will love them too! ;)

How high is the bench? I would use the end tables on either side of couch.

S Mistry gives a great thought. The entrance to the room could easily take a couple of end tables. Nice and practical. Let's you leave the coffee table where it is, still gives some places to put beverage glasses.

In a bit of "the other way"- forget the shape, but take a peek at the color. Calm, water- marries "inside and out", without ruining the tones.

It's a beautiful room, but what's missing is a feeling of people gathering together. How about creating a conversational grouping by moving one chair across from the other, facing the outside, and closer to the coffee table? I can certainly see a beautiful metal sculpture on your stone wall as well. A couple of luxurious throws over the backs of the chairs either in a color or handwoven multi-neutral knit would convey coziness, yet still be sophisticated.

Okay! Made some changes as you guys can see... the height of the bench is 18inches, made of reclaimed wood.. I just feel in love with it! what do you all think about the new furniture layout? To be honest I liked it, the only thing that bothers me is that the bench cannot be symmetrically centered to the window behind... what do you all think?! I will be getting the pillows and changing the lamp shades to bring some colour/color ;-) to the room... Thanks again for all the ideas! Also, I'm posting the pics with the plant on both sides... which side do you think works better?

I like the room this way. The plant looks best by the stone wall, pulled out from the corner a tad....right now it looks a bit squished in. the bench position does not bother me at all. Very calming room, I think your pillow selections will look great, then add a throw.

I wouldn't ditch the bench, but consider moving it all the way across, to the other side, within the new arrangement. NO trouble with the slider, and that bench can be moved around, during high-volume entertainment.

Proportion seems to be the issue here. The rug should be wider than the sofa by a minimum of 2 feet and more would be better. The art should be no wider than 75% of the sofa's width and should hang with its bottom 5" above the sofa. The bench just doesn't "fit" the vibe you have going, is too tall and looks ungainly by comparison with the more contemporary lines of your other pieces. To be useful, coffee tables should sit no further than 18" from seating, and they should arrive at seat level. End tables should be at arm level for the people seated on the low chairs. They do look better with the sofa since they arrive close to the ideal level of 1" above or below its arms. Just pull them forward so guests don't have to reach behind themselves to place something there. I also think you are neglecting the focal stone wall. Consider moving the art above the sofa to that wall and hanging it vertically with the bench under it, but not squared up with it. Have you tried turning the chairs to face the lanai and pool from the opposite side of the rug? We can't see what this side of the space is like, but you might turn the rug the other way and accomplish something. Can't hurt to try it.

Try pulling sofa away from wall toward coffee table as well as chairs. The problem is the scale of your coffee table. It is too small. Need larger square table to accomplish the symmetry you seek. If you move furniture toward current coffee table you can square everything up to the slider door wall. Might need a simple narrow sofa table as well. I wonder if turning rug might redefine but not sure about adjoining spaces. Lamps are too feminine for space and natural light conditions. End tables best beside sofa and lamps with beefier bases would help ground your space. Aren't you glad you asked? lol. Overall, you have great space and pieces so you will get it right.

I wouldn't suggest anything in front of slider. Is the current seating enough for space? You might try a small round side table between chairs, that'll solve concern about coffee table. Then the coffee table can just be decorative and not functional because everyone has a spot to place a drink within arms reach

the distance between coffee table/sofa and coffee table/chairs is 23 inches. I can comfortably reach the table. I really appreciate all your expertise and help. I feel the room came together way better than it was before. I am glad I asked you guys! Thank you all again!

18" is the ideal from seating to coffee table. It's not just so you can reach things but also the idea conversational distance. The room is wonderful in any case.

Looks so much better! Thank you for being open minded to the change in layout! Now please please please consider removing the table lamp in the corner and replacing w a floor lamp. Try the tree on the angled wall. It looks too squashed in the corner. 2 fully upholstered ottomans or a day bed style long upholstered piece opposite the windows would complete the arrangement.
