Go for the pendants running long ways. They don't need to be centered. The ones you're showing are kind of chunky for the space. Maybe three similar but smaller pendants running parallel to the cans.

I do have smaller ones but I only have two of them. They looked way too small to me and the color was off from these and the foyer light. Yes they're chunky but I'm going with lots of chunky stuff in this house. The way I have them set on the island is long ways, not sure if the pics show that. So regardless of using smaller or larger pendants, you don't think it would look terrible to have one pendant super close to a can on one side and further away on the other?

I think it would look better having the pendants go the short way then.

Thank you John and suzyq53! Appliances and backsplash go in next week so I'm excited to see it all together. The last picture is actually just one pendant, not two in line on the short side. I'd rather use none than just one. The contractor suggested putting them in line on the short side but that's just not what I was going for. What about moving or covering can lights?

The cans are what will give you light. The pendants are mostly for looks. If you remove some cans, it may be too dark.

The pendants are great and don't worry about them not being centered in the room. Center them over the island and they will pull the room together nicely. Don't remove any of the cans, they will provide general lighting since your pendants will be mostly decorative. Use both pendants though! They are the perfect scale for your island.

acm, thank you-I honestly didn't notice it originally either until I started figuring out where to move the cans. I haven't quite forgotten all the trials and tribulations especially since 3 showers had to get demo'd and redone while we were living in the house! All part of building I guess.

Thank you, Caroline! The pendants are from Lowe's, the brand is Millennium Lighting. I don't think you can tell from the pic but they're antique silver and match my hardware perfectly. I don't think they have this color in stock online anymore but last I checked they had them in ORB. The bar stools are from jet.com but I also saw them on wayfair.com. Search google for unfinished counter height double x back stools. It was kind of a pain to paint them but worth it for the price and to get the color right.

Yah I had a design boo boo with my fridge, the cabinets on the left are 9" base cabinets-3 of them stacked on top of each other. I was supposed to have one 9" lower cab between the dishwasher and fridge but didn't take the fridge being able to open into consideration!! So I had to put the DW right next to the fridge which wasn't my first choice aesthetically. I didn't do custom cabs so the only stock pantry they had for the side of the fridge was 18", which would totally mess up the run on my sink side. So I got creative! Here's my panic post if you care to read...

Love your kitchen.. I'm looking at similar pendants and bought some a bit big. I would have had to hang them pretty close to the ceiling. What size are yours and the ceiling height? Approx. how high above the island are they hung? I appreciate it very much!

jani76, thank you very much for the compliment! Lowe's calls these pendants 16", they looked way bigger to me but it's late and I don't feel like crawling up on the island to measure them! Here's a link to the ones I bought. My ceilings are 9' and the bottom of the pendants are 30" from the island.

I have the same unfinished barstools and let me tell you those things can handle a beating. They have survived 3 kids for the past 9 years.
