is the brick staying the same? what colors have you tried? what color do you like or don't like? I love black trim around windows with a cream siding. Or you could do some tone of navy. that always looks good w/brick, as does green.

The brick does need to stay the same, unfortunately. Three painters have said it has too much texture, and it pops out from recessed mortar so much that it would be nearly impossible to paint. And...we need to focus money on a kitchen instead.

Colors tried that work with the brick: SW Serengeti Grass (just kinda blah tan), SW Rocky Ridge (on door,feels like one of the original colors in the neighborhood-kinda blah.)I want to try SW Tempe Star and I'm tempted to try either the green or blue on the window trim, but what would go on the door and siding (bay windows?)

Oh, I tried BM Marine Blue on the door and SW Georgian Bay (both were just too much color for a stark house.)

I like all that brick. Along w/the house, some simple landscaping around the front, will go a long way to polishing up the house!

Can you pull one of those darker colors from the brick for a door color? Can't tell if it's green or black. Instead of a bright marine blue, go more for a muted navy, with dark green undertones. that will play well with the brick.

The siding I might stay with something light, in the creamy/sand tones. something that complements the brick.

Is your roof peach colored?? Could you post a pic a closet to show the brick and the roof colors?

I like the idea of dark trim. I did it using MS Paint so it is not perfect. I used a few different dark colors.

I didn't have much luck with door color. Then I did sidinga creama taupeand a sage

I like the navy blue, also Farrow and Ball stiffkey blue.

oooh,,,that FB color Stiffkey Blue (who names these?!) looks so nice against the brick! That would be killer on your front door. For the siding, pick out a creamy-taupe-ish shade thats in your brick. And for the trim maybe do that blue with it darkened by 50%

I don't think I'd choose 3/4 doors for this home. I do agree with navy.

Here is a closer view of the brick- with SW Serengeti Grass to cover all the other colors I tried on the door. The 3/4 lite doors are actually more for functionality since the foyer is so dark all the time and it is our main entryway where all 5 of us are putting shoes on and packing backpacks. The doors are already ordered, so unless they don't fit, we are getting them- with chord glass. I love being able to see all the MS paint pic, so thank you for doing that. The SW website where you try out colors was so clunky I kinda gave up on that process.

Oh and the roof is orange, just like the rest of the house. Blah. We will change it eventually, but it seems okay for now.

I'd do full light, paint grade doors on this house that mirror the clean windows shapes/sizes. I know full light scares some folks, but the glass can be obscured.

Another option is something with a small single panel like these.

The existing doors are very interesting and should be considered. But I like light, myself. Definitely brighten with some color.

Kris, the bottom doors, paint grade, with one panel below is what is on order. Mixed a sample of the BM equivalent of Stiffkey Blue to try out today and am going to get another sample remixed to be Porpoise, which is a lighter shade of Urbane Bronze, just to try on the window trim. I'm loving these ideas as they seem much more updated than what I was coming up with alone! Our 7yo said we needed something red on the porch, so I'll need to either tie in some pots or one pot and a pillow to go on the chair we are using on the porch...once we get the paint decided.

Oh, the existing doors are from 1971 and have split like sliced bread and front to back, badly on the inside. They're done, unfortunately.

Those are not called 3/4 lite doors. A 3/4 lite door is one with 12 lights in it, which would not suit your home.

I like the black trim with a blue or green door. The siding, I would either use a cream like Beth said or use a light version of whatever you use on the door.

A burnt orange would look great with that stiff key blue. But if the little guy wants true red, you gotta do it ;) I found some cute dinosaur and animal shaped pots in red and orange. They are small and could be paired in with some larger orange planters for a little kid-inspired fun.

3/4 just means that only the top 3/4 is glass. you can have a 3/4 12 lite, or a 3/4 single lite or even a 3/4 6 lite. So, you're both correct.

A red planter (that one above is gorgeous!!) would look good near the front step area. maybe one on each side?

So here is the F&B Stiffkey Blue (the BM equivalent Gentlemen's Gray.) I like it! Around one side of the door is Serengeti Grass (left) and the right side is Anonymous, which is too cool. I'm wondering if a darker, warmer griege would be good for the windows? How do I find one?

how bout Kendal Charcoal for the trim? too dark? don't know about greige for those. what a about a creamy color?

You could ask them to darken the door color and use that as trim for windows. Darken til almost black.

The trim around the door is not wide, I might paint it the same color as the door.

I like the middle color best but I'd go darker still.

hmmm, I like both of them. the dark goes w/the darker bricks, and the beige goes w/the mortar. Although I think you could go darker. A blue/black/gray might be nice. You're probably sick of doing samples! I mix my own. Add a little black and the blue to the gray and see what you get.

So my SIL has a designer she has used numerous times. I put in a call to her, and she came out yesterday! She said the same thing- Black Fox on the windows, and because the house is feeling so dark, we will try to outline the windows in natural elements. Bleeker beige will be tried on the siding and the ledger boards. She wants me to try an even darker blue- so Hale navy. What a process!
