Unfortunately, putting the tile all the way up to the top of the cabinet crown molding might not be an option. The tile is installed before the hood is hung. It will depend on how much "play" there is with the hood vent entry into the ceiling.

I was also concerned about the slivers of wall to the right and left of the cabinets between the cabinets and windows and felt that stopping below the cabinets and at the bottom of the hood would keep things simple and cleaner looking when all is said and done.

If the hood weren't already installed, and maybe if it were a bigger hood AND there were no cabinets there then it might make a real statement

But 1) I think it's too late, and 2) IMO, I don't think those tile type walls make a good statement. They just look like a line of tile to the ceiling, with paint in either side.

I think a well thought-out backslash up to the bottom of the hood, with a nice color of paint on the walls and above the cabinets would look just as awesome.

Either way, the slivers of wall wouldn't need to be tiled.

And I just noticed the tile you chose. The color is very neutral. Combined with the very neutral cabinet color, IMO, that wouldn't make too much of a feature.

I like the tile, but do consider painting the walls a different color. Blue, blue-ish grey, light periwinkle, light sage green, I dunno, bright coral? Something fun!

Maybe consider tiling the backsplash between the countertop and the bottom of the cabinets. Then use a stainless steel backsplash between the bottom of the hood and the rangetop.

I vote to stop under the cabinets. Pretty...Quartz?

I agree that having the tile up to the hood and then painting to match is the best idea. You can always add tile later.

Is your countertop Cambria? I am just asking because they have a paint match tool that could get you started:)
