Edit- getting a new rug is not an option. :)

Well, the obvious solution is a runner rather than a large rug, but since you've eliminated that out of the gate... Does the rug affect the stability of the tree? I.e., if having it tipped back made it stronger in the face of heaped coats and boots, then I'd leave it that way. Neither solution will look particularly great.

Well, darn. I may need to rethink. LOL. I really didn't want to block the outlet that is there since I do use it regularly for vacuuming. The little table is for a place to put keys, sunglasses, random stuff that people carry in. I guess I could put a basket on the hall tree bench that would serve same purpose. And, maybe I need rethink the rug too.

I think the rug is in the perfect spot. The rug needs to be centered off of the door so I would leave all the way it is. The table will be so nice in that spot and will help to balance the room out. I would say maybe not to put pictures above the hall tree, it is probably too high. Nice paint on the wall too. What is the color?

LOVE this piece you had made and I think the rug is perfect right there, where it is. Move the grass piece down, next to the tree and lower the art....unless your new table is super tall, you will want the two pieces connecting more.

Family pics maybe not work over the coats, but I love that space used, especially with a little ledge right there. What about a wreath and you can hang it for stability, but make it look like it is leaning on the ledge. Add a few moss balls or something like that....again, may need to attach to keep from rolling off, but play with that space for a fun decor area.

I agree with @jacknewportbeach. I think a table next to the tree would take away from the beautiful tree you had made and make the hallway look cluttered. What if you centered the tree on the wall and hung family photos on either side of the tree to make it look symmetrical. You could add your basket as you mentioned, or even hang some smaller hooks on the back wall of the tree for those keys and sunglasses. A runner would really make it pop, and probably help stabilize the tree, but I wouldn't say it is necessary, as I'm assuming the one you have wasn't cheap. A quick jigsaw would take care of your plug dilemma and noone would know it was there except you! Post pics and show us how it ends up! I'm lusting for a entryway solution like this!
