A friend sent me this link and it's quite amazing. Classic Japanese woodworking joinery is very intricate, and books trying to explain it can be difficult to visualize. A collector of such books had the brilliant idea of creating gifs to show how the cuts fit into one another.

It's quite amazing, and a treat for anyone who appreciates old-style woodworking. There's just a few shown in the article; apparently the guy has a website where he shows more of them.
