in the last photo, you need more on that wall and maybe less on the wall in the first photo. can u put that cute table with the lamps behind one of the longer couches?

I guess i could bring the single couch in and make room for the table and hopefully there will be enough space to walk through.

Your furniture grouping is too far apart so it looks disjointed. Bring everything in and then take s look. It looks like the love seat and sofa table are blocking traffic where they are.

No more leather In this room. If you do an ottoman for a coffee table, do a fabric one.

You need a few more Aqua punches so your lamp shades are tied in more.

Try: rotate the rug 90°, center it on the short wall, place the console table and family art on the wall where the chair is, move the sofa to the wall where loveseat is, centered and all the way back to the wall with the rug centered under it, loveseat where chair is with front two legs on rug (leave 3' walkway), chair in the corner of the rug closest to the window, all on rug if possible, turned at an angle. Even better would be to replace it with two smaller fabric chairs.

Abstract or transitional art above the sofa.

Sorry, I find the turquoise lampshades jarring. Your other blues seem more muted and calm. But to make it work, add that degree of brightness in some pillows, and decor on the far side of the room.

I like your dog a lot. Any chance you can paint a feature wall in the same aqua of your lamps (perhaps the wall with the arm chair)? The arrangement of the seating definitely makes the room seem very closed and crowded - I wonder if you could put the arm chair and loveseat against one wall together (assuming you need both). My only other note would be that shelf of pictures in the first pic. They all look like very nice pieces, but seem so crowded on that shelf. I would take the shelf down and hang all the photos in a nice arrangement on the wall so you can really see them all.

There is one wall we are not seeing. You could definitely do better with furniture arrangement and the large pieces and the large design in the rug need large on the walls to balance things out. All about scale.

What is the first wall people see ahead of them when they come in the front door? We need to make that your focal since you have no fireplace or architecturally interesting focal (unless it is on the wall you haven't shown us.) Comment here and use the Photo button below the comment box to add more pix. Right now it looks like the end of the big sofa is blocking you from having an inviting arrangement that welcomes people when they come through the door.

What is behind the large couch? AN entrance to another room?

This room is huge! I think you have enough space for two seating groupings, if you so desire.

If it was my space, I would arrange all the current furniture around the window wall, with the long sofa at the wall centered between the two windows, the loveseat centered with its back to the kitchen doorway, and the chair facing the sofa and loveseat at an angle in the left hand (as you sit on the couch) corner of the rug. Rug would be turned long side parallel to the window wall. The console would go back where you had it (sorry) and I would add a lighter, fabric covered fainting couch to the short wall. It would not be on the rug at all.

Something needs to be added under the "sweet" sign; maybe a small bookcase? And would you consider turning the arrow upside down so it directs us into the house instead if out the front door? :)

I would try the long sofa on the long wall with the love seat at a right angle and the chair on a 45 degree angle facing the point where the loveseat and sofa meet.....add a end table were the sofa and love seat meet. Lastly add 2/pink/tan pillows (what ever the wall color is) and one third blue grey pillows, to brighten the room a bit. Clear lucite cocktail table would lighten room and allow you to see the carpet. Fill in walls with two very large art pieces think IKEA, Home Goods, Cost Plus World Market etc.

Buy bigger lamps that balance out the sofa; your lamps are too small for this room.

Let's go for "transitional" by removing the country looking shelves and signs. Put the 3-seat sofa on the wall where you now have the long shelf. This will be the focal of your seating area, so pull the rug under the front 1/3 of the sofa. Add a large piece of art hung 5" above the sofa. It should be no longer than 75% of the sofa's length and should be something you really love that has colors you can work through the two open spaces. A round glass and wood coffee table should sit no farther than 18" from this sofa. Place the front 1/3 of love seat on the end of the rug, facing the windows. Put a larger console and larger lamps on the wall where you now have the sweet sign, shelf, and arrow. Here is another spot for art, as is the blank wall by the kitchen, left of the windows. Angle the chair and footstool on the corner of the rug by the windows. Add a side table and lamp with it for a nice reading spot, and hang more art on the wall between the windows. Where the console and lamps are now, add a tall piece of casegoods as a visual counter balance to the tall windows opposite, and so everything in the room is not at the same level. This can be a bookcase, secretary or display cabinet. Try moving the pieces you already have into this arrangement and take a photo so we can see what else needs to be done.

I like er612's renderings except for one thing: I assumed the doorway in the bottom left leads to bedrooms, and I was thinking the kids should have an unobstructed path to the kitchen and to fire exits.

should i get rid of the lamps and pillows? I just bought them. If you guys have any ideas with visuals that will be very helpful. Im more of a visual person. @ER612 i will be re-arranging furniture this weekend and see what i come up with.

i agree i kind of want to get rid of the ottoman and I might do so when i get the coffee table.

You should move all the seating one more time - big sofa where you have the love, love facing the windows, chair angled by the windows. I think you'll want to turn the rug with this arrangement too. Lamps and table at the wall perp to the entry/foyer.

Select an accent color and use that as a guide when adding new throw pillows and decorative art pieces. Add a bright accent wall color either behind the chair or the sofa. Lighten up the room with a bold color area rug (the blue in the rug fight with the aqua table lamps). I would definitely move all of the furniture in closer. Add a floor lamp and a side table next to the chair. Try some framed or unframed artwork or a book shelf to break up the empty walls. The room is so heavy with the oversized furniture I think it would be wise to add a light color coffee table.

I liked the old new way better personally.

I prefer this grouping, but a larger rug might be needed. Your dark and bulky seating is overpowering the small rug. They look like a group of fat ladies who are afraid to get into the water. A bigger rug would allow the chair to sit closer to the outlet between the windows so you could add a table and lamp for it. It would also anchor the two sofas better. A glass and wood round coffee table would let a rug show through and would help lighten the heavy, blockiness of the seating. If you don't have room for any more big furniture without blocking traffic paths, then just add art. 1 for the sofa, 1 for the console, 2 for the window wall (1 by the kitchen and 1 between the two windows.) Your drapes seem to be a bit skimpy. Several pix show them barely covering the windows when closed. consider adding more panels to gain needed fullness. You have room to raise them so the hems are barely 1" off the floor, rather than crumpling on it.
