I really like the chairs and think they are a great fit with the table. Your light fixture needs to be lowered though.

I think they are great!!! Wonderful find..I would try to add a warm wood decor element somewhere else in the room..but not necessary. I would keep them for sure!

Well done! Good find. I like the chairs with the table. Definitely inject color for a stronger impact. An area rug will be great ... check out Angela Adams angelaadams.com or The Rug Company therugcompany.com/us/ for some great options. Maybe replace the willow branches with an updated look of ceramic pottery or colored glass decorative art pieces (West Elm, Cb2, Heath Ceramics or Higgins Glass). Try a shorter/lighter linen barrel lamp shade for the 2 table lamps. Lastly, if you don't want the expense of wallpaper, create an accent wall with a bright Benjamin Moore matte color. Good luck! Love the chairs but IMO adding pads to the seats will make them look cheap, add some color to the table top I would remove the art work from the wall on both sides of the door they don’t do a thing for the space your light fixture is hung too high and appears blue is that because of the LED bulb or is it actually blue ?

I totally disagree with Patricia Colwell the pro. I have wooden chairs similar and when people sat at the table no one exactly lingered there because they were uncomfortable. So I do have cushions .A space that looks put together is great but you also have to enjoy sitting on those chairs and your guests as well. Maybe some sheepskin throws would look sharp .

Upholstered chairs at both ends with matching cushions for the chairs would warm up the look. The chairs are cute!

I like them and they suit table and space (tight) well. I would remove the extra chairs from the room and stow in bedrooms for spare chairs then bring out when entertaining. Although can't put more people at table it seems. Look for light colored host chairs upholstered and simple design like wood chairs. Here are a couple ideas.

Something like these. Now these are very expensive, but I'm posting this to give you an idea of what to look for. I don't think the space can handle a large comfy host chair but something along this order where you have similar wood look, nice clean lines and a nice neutral fabric would work very well.

I would not go with so much wood, perhaps an end chair like this, which is available in Stone, Brick, Sage and Wheat:

Those chairs are gorgeous! Have you considered adding a wood top to your table instead of the glass?? I think if the whole table was wood, there would be no question of whether or not the chairs fit (all 6 of them). Then, get a great rug for under the table. If you love the glass top then I think the 4 chairs (not all 6) works well enough to justify the chairs. Not suggesting getting rid of the other 2 chairs, but rather placing them in other rooms until it's dinner party time. Hope this helps!

I love your chairs and think they look great with your table. Personally I like them without cushions but I quickly get uncomfortable sitting on wood chairs (due to not having much junk in my trunk), and I would consider keeping cushions in the buffet for comfort if people are going to be sitting for extended time.

Actually some wood chairs can be more comfortable than cushioned chairs...I have sat in a mid-century chair very similar and it was very comfortable for a long dinner party I attended..no worries keep them clean and simple...especially with your design elements already in the space! No different host chair needed for this more clean modern look you have..

Interesting suggestion katguimarello... I'll try something! The chairs are so comfortable and they feel luxurious... I cannot believe they were at HomeGoods.

As for the hanging fixture. It is a Hue bulb and I can change the color. I was just trying to add some color to the photo. The reason it looks so high is that although it is an 8 foot ceiling the adjoining rooms are 9.5 feet and higher. I have 2 more of these hanging lamps in the living room right around the corner and all three are hung at the exact same height. I thought it was best for continuity. You think it should be lower?

Love the chairs with the table. I would like to see some more visual blank space in the area. Suggestions - remove the art on both sides of the door and the piece in the alcove to the right of the credenza. Move the table about a foot away from the door if possible. You'll have to see how that looks once you lower the light.

I am not sure a rug is going to fit in this space properly. Might just be the photos, but because of the layout, it appears the rug will have to extend to the console and out into the walkway? Might not want to do it, but you can surely try.

I agree Flo..No Rug it will not even work in that space...Houzzers let's be easy on this space..I think it is wonderful...this Houzzer has done a great job no need to nit pick the space....I actually like the art and the space really has some personality..very much has its own individual style....it all works in my opinion!

There's something about this room that doesn't feel quite right to me and I'm having trouble figuring it out.
My best guess is that maybe there is just too much stuff; interesting but disparate elements; a lack of cohesion somehow.
I think maybe you need to remove some items, and also add a rug.
But yes, thumbs up for the chairs!

See if any of the things I suggested removing fit in the ledge space over the TV. The room seems to be more airy and open.

Great chairs and they are perfect with the table. I wouldn't add a rug at all because the room looks like a walkway, and you don't want to be walking on the rug edges. The wood is also dark enough that it has contrast to the wood floors. Don't change a thing!

Wow those chairs look like they were made for that table an space. Skip the suggested cushions and rug. I just love it the way it is now.

Gorgeous chairs, beautiful fit with the table! It does seem a bit tight in the room, though. Instead of taking away the hostess chairs, could you try one side chair at each side?

Don't agree. Having only one chair on each side will make everything look tiny. It would also throw off the balance with the buffet. Two each side, with end chairs set aside until needed. I was looking at your photo last night also, and I think the two accent pieces (tall twigs?) could be removed as well. Sometimes we have to "edit" the items we have on surfaces so try that. Or try moving things in a bit from the ends. Don't need to go all the way to the edge of the buffet. See if that helps a bit. Just knit-picking here. Overall very nice, and the bargain you got on those chairs is so exciting isn't it!!! Yes, every once in a while there is a true bargain out there.

Finndian, is your dining table centered to the buffet? That would be good to do.

I really like the chairs. A lot. They appear to be mid-century modern, contemporary. Accessorize correctly and those chairs will work!

I rotated the table while I search for a rug. The reason I didn't have it this way is because it is not possible to center it under the the hanging lamp. If I attempt to center it to the console then it is way off as well.

Maybe a round table is the answer. I can't use the two armchairs on a round table can I?

That doesn't work in that orientation and a round table isn't going to be good either, IMO. To seat 6 at a round table you need at least 60" round. But to be sure, before you go buy something, mark the floor with painter's blue tape and you will be able to see the problem. Is this a table/chair arrangement you use often?? If not, center it to the buffet, lengthwise and move it a bit if necessary for larger get togethers. Generally, the way people entertain these days is pretty casual. This table will be a "buffet" and chairs will be moved aside for additional casual seating I would bet. You have a lovely area and great deal on those chairs!!!

Flo, can you tell me why this doesn't work? Is it just the lamp? Can I swag it? This configuration looks great in person. Its tight but plenty of room for all the chairs and now no unused corner of the room. The traffic flow passed the table is improved too. I've laid out an old rug I had in storage to get some color in there.

Looks OK.....I have to say a round table would be perfect for your room:) and I liked it running in the other direction seems to give you more space for in front of Buffet...but if you like it than keep it...I still really love those chairs perfect in your space!! Such a great find!

The reason to my eye (but I defer to you who are actually in the space) is that the table in this orientation doesn't fit the shape of the space. Especially with the door, it looks like it is taking up all the width of the space. Also, the linear line of the buffet calls to be repeated in the table, so doing it lengthwise helps emphasize that look. I love the buffet and it makes the space, so that is just my take. There is no "wrong" way here and you have great taste. I also prefer no rug because I like the wood flooring and chair push back will hook on rug edges so it is better without a rug. One more nit pick comment! The photo on the back wall to the right of the door and the hanging with a gun, seems to kind of ruin the zen of the space you have created. I would remove those and find something that repeats the metallic tones of the buffet and lamps. Just sayin...

id like to try round too. i couldn't use the arm chairs with round though could I?

Round might work, but I don't think you could get large enough one to seat 6 in this space. I need actual room measurements to be sure. Give me those and I can lay it out for you. The arm chairs fit under tables if the table height is right. Has to do with height of table not round or rectangular shape. Height of arms have to fit under height under top edge of table. Need at least 48" round for 6 people. It might work. Just need measurements of room to be sure.

Flo is right be sure about table size if you go round... I have a 58" round table with 6 chairs...nothing smaller than 11'x 11' foot space for a comfortable fit....what is your room size not counting the area where the buffet is.

I love the chairs and hate the table the table looks cheep especially the way that the legs are constructed I just don't like it

My chairs are 21" wide and they just fit...

That door should be a window actually. It opens to a 3 foot wide walk way that goes the length of the house. There are 2 other ways to get into that area. I was going to have a door made to look more like a window with an opening awning type window at about the height of these chairs. The quicker fix would be to take the door knob off and fill the hole and put sliding locks top and bottom. The door is never used. I would love to not use a rug there... I just wanted to see what it looked like.

The room is 11' from the wall to the front of the console and 9' from the wall (with the door) to the small wall to the right of the console.

Darn;(.... well round is out....I think what you have is nice and works in your space if you need to seat more than 4 people....a pedestal rectangle would give a more open feeling and not confine the chairs...just another option.

Round is not necessarily out. It can come out toward the kitchen a bit. No one answered when I asked about armchairs on a round table. Can I use them or will I have to search or two more chairs?

I don't think armchairs are ideal with a round table, but I doubt with these chairs it would be very noticeable

Trying to squeeze a round table in this space is a mistake in my view. As Interior said, notice the width of your chairs at front edge. That is the choke point. You have a nice table, and chairs I recommend you are perhaps over thinking this. Maybe you just need to turn the table back and have a party and see what feedback you get. Remove rug too as you noted. Sheer drapes over that door wall is a good idea and will hide door.

Your dining space looks great. If you think a round table is going to work definitely do measure first. The photographs below are just a few inspiration images from our design book that we wanted to share.
