It sounds as if you are going for very retro cottage. If you complete your vision, I fear you will end up with a home that looks more like a set from the old Andy Griffith TV show than a home someone lives in. Are you sure this is what you want? I strongly suggest you consider a professional decorator to help bring your thoughts to life with a slightly more updated feel.

Providing photos of what is in place will help. Also, try searching photos, here on Houzz, and creating an ideabook for yourself, so folks can see your vision better. This can take some time, but is worth it.

Calico Corners ( link below ) if one near you. Or consult a drapery workroom in your area, who will also help you with fabric, and create them to suit your window sizes. Valances require fullness to look good, unless in a style such as pleated.....which has its own issues and fabric requirements.

Search coastal cottage style on Houzz, and I think you will find ideas to update your look and still have a home you love.

Pam your remarks were hurtful and not helpful. If you feel you can't help then just don't bother. I agree there r many gingham valances on Internet, but not in pale green. Also, strongly suggesting me to consider a professional was just mean!! If I felt I needed a professional I wouldn't b writing for advice on here. I tried to explain as best as I could, there was no need for your wise comments. If u saw so many valances in light green, not lime, more of light Sage, than post where. Maybe u have to much time or anger in your life to b answering advice from this site.

Might be too much stenciling - but option with white or ivory valances to add checks. Or at borders even.... your creative touch.

Jan thank-you for your advice and yes I have searched calico corners, without any success. I really prefer to buy valances. U very nicely stated my style ship has sailed to sea. I'm very interested on your views. I have looked at many photos and thought I was on the right track. Please, if u have suggestions I'd love to hear them. I'm going to try and upload photos, but only items in the three rooms I'm addressing is white kitchen cabinets/white and oak cottage dining room set/ natural oak hardwood floors and all trim work as I said before. If u were referring to gingham valances, then what would u suggest? Just not a fan of flower valances. Hope to hear back, thx

Ron, I'm a sucker for navy and yellow. But I guess it depends on what else you have for furniture, accessories, etc. I've a combination of yellow, navy and sage in my own home. You can definitely go that route and bring in some other navy accents with throw pillows, blankets and artwork. Don't stress-enjoy the process! CC is great for ordering samples so try a few different colors and patterns and find what you love. All the best!

I noticed something in the picture you love--no valance. Could you add the gingham you love in chair cushions or throw pillows, table napkins, etc and leave the windows bare?

And btw......... the photo of the look you love has NO valance. The pale green is painted tongue and groove on the walls , and the only "violet" is the fresh flowers, so fill a vase as you like!. There is NO oak window trim, which indeed can look very dated. You are thus looking at a more updated version of the very look you are seeking . Also.............the violet floral used to style that photo is the more sophisticated, updated, version of the complementary pink you'd prefer !!! Still complementary, just newer and less "sweet". That is the hands of time at work.

@Ron, to answer your question I don't have any curtains only white blinds. My taste is more transitional/eclectic as I've been married 25 years and moved so many times that I've really had to decide what's important to me in the decorating space. I think what everyone is saying is you are looking to decorate in a manner that's not 'in style' right now and will have a bit of difficulty finding what you want. However if that's what you like then go for it! There are several ways of being creative and getting those valances you like (Everdebz mentioned using the shower curtain to make valance-great idea). Also Jan has some great suggestions as well. I'm sure you'll find what your looking for with some creativity.

Thanks everyone for the help. I don't have oak window trim, whole house is trim is white, only dining room table, chairs and hutch is a combination, of white paint and oak wood. Maybe I'm just not being clear, yes I appreciate knowing I can incorporate Sage in other ways, but do to the fact I can't find them in a valance, I turned to my houzz friends. I thought maybe I missed a site they would be on or as smtebo61 suggested to do blue and white gingham valances and save the Sage for accents. I'm just not sure if I did go that way, what color blue shade I would like. Never thought of navy, was looking for soft colors, but that may b an option. My reasoning for showing pics was to show the look I'm trying to achieve and green color I'm in search for. The website was very helpful, I will check them out, also Im trying to narrow down color name paint used in tongue and grove kitchen pic a posted, that would b helpful. If you can't source the sage color you want, navy will look equally nice. Navy and yellow is a classic combination.

Your windows are gorgeous and so is the furniture in the pics. Can I suggest you get curtains, rather than valances, in the sage you love, and then use gingham pillows and chairs?

First, you've three very different "windows" . I hear what you want, I really do. However...... the slider needs a custom valance to really look pretty. They can be a check. But a valance on a door that size, looks skimpy unless darn well done.. Now........I am going to put a You Tube link to a home here, done for a client of mine a decade or more ago. Yes......it was difficult to get her look together even then, and it would be almost impossible now! Pretend it was "green". It's a bit more polished version of country, more Nantucket Marthas Vineyard. I want you watch the whole thing, the entire house.. See what "custom" can do for you, as every fabric was chosen/ordered for THIS client. for every single thing that had a fabric ON it. : ) inclusive of florals she happened to love. Then go back and look at those fabrics on the earlier link. Here you go. The new owner is probably painting it gray as we "speak" : )

Thank you Chloebud, and the point is, virtually EVERY scrap of fabric, every rug, every last thing is either discontinued , or would need an archaeological dig to re produce today : Like I said, if I drove out and peeked in a window, I am fairly certain I'd find 50 SHADES OF GRAY. And a Lot of Restoration Hardware furniture.

I saw County Curtains mentioned above. Did you check their inventory online? I'm fairly sure that they have light green check valances. They might be called by various names, so scroll through them all. Good luck, your home looks lovely!

JC Penny's online always had a good selection of gingham and buffalo check curtains in all different colors and styles. Have you considered mixing in a little toile for your cottage country look? Your house sounds lovely. Good luck
