its really easy to clean small tiles all you need to do is... after all your renovation is done. make sure to clean your bathroom spotless then seal all around the tiles even the grouts. you might need to do this every 2-3 years then you will be fine. you will be surprise that you wont be seeing any mold between your tiles (on grouts) cause it will sleigh off as you shower!

Well, maybe I need to seal my walls. They're white 4" tile, and I'm constantly scrubbing to fight off the pink...

after shower spray permanently does away with the pink. it makes the water sheet off rather than sit on top of the tiles, and a dry spot cant turn pink.

(you will have to clean it one more time tho, it doesnt clean, it only prevents)

I don't get the not liking a shower pan. I you look at what it takes and the amount of components needed to create a tiled pan you can also see the amount of possible failure and water damages.

Pans are clean and water tight end of story. Th told day of someone throwing down a squeaky cheap pan are hopefully over but it is hard to get that out of consumers heads. A well designed pan properly installed will be as solid underfoot as a tiled floor. Just a simpler cleaner design. There are also pans that can be tiled to really throw you in a tail spin.

Throw your old man a bone and let him have his shower pan. When he tries to pick tile for your kitchen backsplash, you can say "Hey, you got your shower pan, mister." That'll hose him off a bit. Take your leverage when you can get it.

One of Kohler's cast iron shower pans is the bomb to keep clean. But, your installation has to be a standard size. If you have a non standard sized shower, you might look at doing cultured marble, as those can be done as a custom size and drain location. Corian would be another choice, but again, you'd be looking at standard sizes. If you have a good local fabricator, a custom size would be a possibility, but would be pretty costly.

Noting wrong with a shower pan. Because they are textured to provide anti-slip traction, they can sometimes be hard to clean as well, though. Something to consider.

@nnigrt I was told that shower spray was making my glass almost impossible to clean, and other people say it can etch. So I've been looking for a different solution to the pink. Will investigate sealant -- something I guess my contractor didn't consider 15 years ago?

Yes, was also going to suggest that a shower pan is an easy bone to throw, in what will certainly be a series of discussions and negotiations over finishes and style...

ive not heard of the spray being bad on glass... but on our home shower that just has a curtain, we only spray it on the two tile walls anyway. does a wonderful job. (in fact i'm embarrassed to admit we've not cleaned the tile for 7 years... when we moved in it was scrubbed to within an inch of its life (its the original 30's tile) and while i polish the chrome faucets and clean the tub weekly, the tile looks like the day we moved in.)

I find it amazing how many of my clients don't even think about using shower pans in their bathroom renovations - everyone seems to want tile everywhere (until I explain the benefits of shower pans). Personally, I am not a fan of tiled bases - the grout ALWAYS gets caked with soap scum and dirt, making the shower base look tired and old, unless you are incredibly assiduous about cleaning (and re-sealing, if the base is tiled with marble or other natural stone)).

My argument is, why would anyone object to a fibreglass/acrylic shower pan when no one objects to bathtubs made of the exact same material? Besides, it's the WALL tile that establishes the overall "look" of your shower, not the base.

Well I'm on the other side, I think a pre-made pan looks cheap with nice/elaborate tile work .. maybe with plain white tile, but I'd pass with anything else. With new single component grouts and easy to use epoxy grouts there's no need to have mold or stains be a part of your wet areas anymore.

I'm good with manufactured shower pans provided they are high quality units, not those cheap fiberglass or acrylic things, and they suit the design. Use WetStyle brand, they are a composite cast resin, expensive but well worth the price.

@acm we have 6 full baths in our house - Mr clean magic eraser (white sponge) it does wonders if you need to clean your glass shower door if the soap scum dont come off w/ Windex only. after using the magic eraser scrub little then use Windex spray and wipe dry with paper towel. you guys will thank me. make sure to Please SEAL all the grout and tiles!!!!! it does wonders. I am such a freak. very picky on cleaning..... SEAL!!!!!! you wont find any mold. one of our bathroom we haven't seal within our 6 has a lot of mildew/soap scum. you will be very happy!!!!

@ Premier Designs ...I don't think my shower looks cheap with a shower tray !! lot easer to clean than grout ..I also have a shower panels ..hate to think what you say about that !!

Be very careful using those magic erasers! They are actually the equivalent of very fine sandpaper. Over time, they can abrade any surface that you clean with it. Yes, even glass.

Yes, there was a whole bunch of news about those at one time. They are not as good as they seem to be.

Anyone have reviews for WetStyle or IBMirror shower pans? Can't find much legit info on them, but they look nice online and seem to be the only ones that offer a stone look in a larger 72"x42" size.
