I recommend lowering whatever you decide to hang there,

If you can hang the tv on either wall, do that. It is much too high for comfortable viewing. Put a large picture over the mantle, with the bottom being a an inch or two above the mantle. Remove the clock. If you must use the mirror windows, hang them with the bottoms at the same height as other windows in the room. Your room will be more cozy with accessories down where the people are.

The room is going to look beautiful. I love the built ins and the idea of adding the stone. I would say I like the idea of identical mirrors on both sides but I would do some architectural ones that are longer so you bring them down closer to the built ins. They look like they are floating when they are smaller. I also think a rustic wood element would look really nice on either side

IMO that is too much heavy rock for that tiny wall I would have used large format tile and even when you lower the T.V it will be too high the mirror make no sense as they reflect nothing interesting so art would be good and I would mount the T.V on the one side with an arm that allows it to swivel and a piec of art on the other side to balance the T.V.

Looks nice, are you pleased? The rest of the room matters - what art/ accessories are there already?! But there's definite interest with rock and mantel and units, etc... so art might be busy..... idk it depends.

Will you be able to deal with speakers [I assume] and spray them to blend in?

I think that was a really bad idea to make the speakers recessed in a stone-veneer wall. You are locked into that exact size forever. That won't be an easy fix to disguise if you ever want to change the speakers. It's not like patching wallboard.

I also agree that the TV is too high. I'd have put it on a swing-arm wall mount on one side of the fireplace.

As a minimum, paint the speaker covers. Wish you would have come here earlier. But, I would do a lighter color on the walls and then select some very nice artwork for each side wall. Something with a little metallic touches and texture so it adds interest. those walls set back pretty far.

fireplace looks really nice. I don't think the tv is too high. However, I do agree about those speakers. Why not a sound bar to sit on the mantel? Those are just as nice. If you had to have the speakers, then maybe set them in the drywall next to the FP? You have this beautiful stone and then these 'white holes'. Maybe paint them gray to get them to blend in??

The stone looks awesome! It's not as dark as it looked in the picture, which I think is good. I would add two simple, but colorful, paintings on either side of the fireplace. I see there's a game on the TV. If you're big sports fans, framed jerseys could look cool. I don't think mirrors would look as good here. Color would be good and mirrors would just reflect all the neutrals in the room and not add any interest. Oh and lamps would be nice on the built-ins.

What if you put larger art on left - and large lamp at right of fp?

Cool idea about jerseys - is this family room or living room? Is it open to kitchen or any other room[s]?

It is all open. This is living room then flows right into the kitchen and dining room. I like the idea of painting the speakers grey. And colorful or metallic art on the walls instead of the mirrors we had there. Thank you all so much!!! Advice is very much appreciated. I have attached a photo of the bottom floor of our house. It's our floor plan but the stairs don't stick out past the wall.

I can't figure -- is the kitchen ceiling also higher? .. is there increased wall space way left of fireplace into kitchen in other words....

and is kitchen wall 'full' where wall item would go [at left of fp]? of cabinets or other..

It's a little wall between. The vault of the ceiling is between the kitchen and living room.

Seems - do you think? - you don't need soaring metal pieces, going way up.... but enough to add something you like... cause it's a closed area.

And now for the before and after.... just need to find something to hang on the walls.

Nice. I like the window mirrors actually (hung a little lower). But I get that you are looking for a change.
