Yes you can. it is a nice look. I am not sure your wood is oak. It looks like maple in the dest area and possibly Hickory for the door - that is not typical oak grain.

If you like the color in the kitchen that is fine. In general, it is hard to get warm tone woods to work with cool grays. Going with darker grays tends to work better, but as you noted, darkens things up a bit.

This kitchen uses a particularly dark gray, but works in part because of all the white:

thats not oak. Looks like pine. It's not old, good wood. paint it. the kitchen cabs look like maple or birch.

Its all a matter of taste ,personally I would keep one colour going for doors and trim in your case off white/cream .

The answer is "yes"...so long as the doors match the floors. Yours do not. Your doors (and trim) do not match the floors. Which means if you painted out the trim ONLY...you would have 4 colour elements inside of 3ft.

1. Painted wall

2. Painted trim

3. Natural wood doors

4. Dark factory scraped wood floors.

That's about 2 too many colour elements and 2 too many wood elements in close proximity.

Right now you have 3 colour elements (trim matches doors) which is right on the limit to how many colour elements you want to have in one space. Right now it works because the trim/doors/cabinets are all one element. The gold wood is the repeating factor.

As soon as you paint out the trim (we shall assume it is a different colour to the walls as is the norm), you add in a 4th colour element...which gets very hard to deal with in design (it can be done by talented Interior Designers...but us mere mortals mess this up more often than not).

If you paint the trim, you will want to paint the doors. A soft white will work for all the connecting areas. Go for it. It will look very handsome.

Thank you Cancork! That's where I'm struggling. Need to get it "toned down" so it can go on the market. Even worse is a taupe gray fireplace, gray countertops with the oak color trim. The dark hardwood is throughout the main floor. Might be easier and less expensive to put in new floors!
