Kids' rooms

Recently separated and starting over, I want to set a nice place the kids feel happy to come to.
Two rooms: 3.5 years old boy and 16 months old girl. I have pretty much completed the setup but I am missing the finishing touches. I am open to any furniture rearrangement or moving things from one room to another. What do you think?

My ideas:
- Girl room: I want to paint the green drawers in grey or pink.
- Boy room: the Expedit is too dark. Thinking of painting it white or blue.

Walls are empty and I need some more storage I think. For clothes in boy's room and for toys in girl's room.

I agree with painting the crib into light color, but have in mind that they grow up quickly and in 6 months you'll need real bed for the girl. green drawers are fine as they are, but depends of other colors you are planning to . have in mind dynamic of their growth. :)

don't bother too much, those things are not that important for them. it will be messy no matter how you design the space :)

Yes, I would get your son a twin bed. Let him help choose the bedding. Get a frame that has room underneath for low storage bins, which are great for legos, matchbox cars, or action figures. You will need to consolidate some of your storage pieces. Sort through all the toys so they only have what will actually be played with in each room. Kids grow out of things quickly, and sometimes get gifts that they aren't ready for (Knex). Don't buy any more storage pieces. Add a shade to your son's light.

I also wouldn't paint the storage unit, because sliding toys in and out all the time will just scratch the paint. It is fine to have a darker element in the room. You may even want to get a bed frame that color.

Oh wow, I haven't thought of a bigger bed. If I think of growing up I definitely need more clothes storage for the boy. I will have yo get rid of the sofa, move the piano/kitchen downstairs and get a proper dresser.

I like the idea of a the storage under the bed. I hsve seen the Ikea bunk beds and they look great but I need to check how high the ceiling is. Also, at what age do you transition to twin bed/"big boy" room?

Below are some layout options for your girl's room. Do you need a changing table? If so, you could turn the white bookshelf on its side.

Do you have the dimensions for the rooms? I wouldn't paint the bookcase but I would consider moving your son to a single bed with storage underneath.

I would also add a rug to your daughter's room. Here are 3 from Land of Nod:

Thank you so much for the layouts er612! Unfortunately the doean't fit in the lther direction. I thought that the current spot was the only place where it can go due to the curtains been to close to the other corners (plus that wall is also colder) but ai am willing to try and see if the little one behaves.
I love the idea of moving the storage away from the wall as well. I never thought of it, but it creates a little cute corner :)

In the attached photo "Bedroom 3" is the nursery and "Bedroom 2" the toddler's room.

*the crib doesn't fit in the other direction.

*storage away from the wall as in your first layout

I love the Land of Mod but the shipping plus duties to Canada is prohibitive. My eon got lucky (his carpet is from TLON) but we will have to do with Ikea for the nursery.

I also believe that the original placing of the crib leaves more room for playing.
